WMO collecting clothes year-round
World Ministry Outreach of Stephenville is, again, collecting
clothes but it is not for a huge annual giveaway they have
sponsored in years past.
The church has now established a giveaway center within
the facility where good, used clothing will be given away
year-round.
According to Travis Priddy, pastor of the church, specific
dates will be announced when the clothes ministry room
will be open throughout the year but anyone needing
clothing may call to arrange for the room to be opened at
any time. In addition to serving the needs of Stephenville
and surrounding area, World Ministry Outreach also invites
other ministries to come stock up on clothing when making
mission trips to those in need.
Anyone who needs clothing or would like to make donates
of clothing for this ministry may contact Pastor Travis at
254-352-0378.

We had a chili dog party
followed by carol singing in
the Clay Annex on 12-19.
Those fire grilled wieners
were tasty and the carols got
us in the Christmas spirit. A
big thanks to our pianist, Pat
Beaty, for leading us in song.
On Sunday, 12-23, the
congregation was blessed to
hear Elise Hall sing “Do You
Hear What I Hear?” Elise is
the daughter of Faura and
Jim Featherwood.
Rev. Ken Funsf ord titled his
sermon that day “Christ Bom
anew in Your Heart Today.”
The Candle Fight Service on
Christmas Eve was beautiful
and well received. I believe
we never tire of hearing the
story of Christ’s birth as told
in the Book of Fuke. Whether
it is little Finus from the
Charlie Brown comic strip or
a friend from our church
reading the words, they are
comforting and so dear.
Several members took part
in presenting the Christmas
program. Then there was
finger foods and warm apple
juice in the foyer. Thank you
to all who worked on this
event.
Dec. 30 was a fifth Sunday
and of course we had to eat
again. There was a covered
dish dinner after church.
Pastor Ken’s sermon was
“Walking by Faith.” This
message was gleaned from
the second chapter of Fuke.
It tells “the rest of the story”
of what happened after Jesus’
birth.
Pastor Ken said we who live
in freedom and prosperity
cannot understand the terror
that was in Mary and Joseph’s
heart as they fled King Herod.
We don’t know what it is to
be a refugee in a strange land.
What is the message in this
ancient story for our lives
today?
First, we need to
acknowledge that there is no
promise in Scripture that
things will always go our way
just because we follow Jesus.
There is no promise that
God’s elect will have a smooth
road. The “prosperity gospel”
has become very popular.
Just give your heart to Jesus
and you will proper in every
way. I suspect if you
presented the prosperity
gospel to Mary and Joseph,
they would laugh in your
face. Mary and Joseph didn’t
jet down to Cairo and take up
residence at the Hilton Hotel.
Fife was unimaginably hard
for them just as it has been
hard for millions of believers
in Christ over the centuries
since.
We are promised though,
that God will always be with
us when we follow Jesus.
Mary and Joseph were not
alone inEgypt. God’s watchful
eye was upon them, and
God’s hand was beneath
them. Mary and Joseph did
see the promises of God
fulfilled in their lives. They
could lean on the Rock that
would not fail.
God does not bribe us to be
Christians, if He did that
would not be walking by faith.
No, God allows us to be tried,
tested, and sometimes
terrified.
I can’t tell you that 2013
will be your best year ever.
But I can tell you this: We are
never alone while walking by
faith, the same God who
provided for Mary and Joseph
and baby Jesus in Egypt is the
God who watches over you
and me. Happy New Year!

Whitley were guests at our
home. Bryan and Tyler had to
leave early to miss the coming
storm that in their general
direction.
Sonia Evans' sister, Karen
Riemann came for a day or so
to spend Christmas with
them. Sonia said Robert and
Karen Keith came over that
Christmas night for supper.
There will not be a dinner
at church this Sunday for the
Sinclairs will be performing
that night.
Charlotte and Earl Jack
spent Christmas with the
kids in Keller. They divided
their time between all three
families and had a great visit
along with a lot of good food.
They came home on
Christmas Day before the
roads got too bad. Charlotte
said they got an inch of rain
and were thankful for that
much.
Patty Hirst wishes to thank
everyone who helped with
the nursing home angel tree
gifts. The party on December
21 was great. Miss Billie
always talks about how much
help she gets for the nursing
home angels from the
Highland Community. Patty
said they had a good turn out
for their Christmas Eve
services at Greens Creek
Methodist Church. For those
who may be interested, the
Dublin Library has many new
audio books for your listening
pleasure. So, go by and check
them out.
Mary and Tommy Hooks
spent the Christmas holidays
in Kerrville with Tom's sister
along with Mary's sister and
her niece's family. They had a
nice surprise when another
niece and her family from
Odessa stopped by on their
way home from the River
Walk in San Antonio. Mary
and Tommy came home a
little early due to the weather
and was so glad they did.
Judy James said they had
their family Christmas on
Saturday, December 22 and
hosted the James Family
Christmas on Christmas Eve.
Dwane Gary reports that
Carrol Jones had the hole in
his heart repaired and now is
doing good. He will have
cataract surgery in the coming
future. And Dwane says that
he is getting over the crud
but it's slow process. And
now Sue has it.
Jimmy Bailey hurt his leg in
a tree accident and has been
put out of commission but
seems to be recovering fairly
well. He finally got aremovable
cast so he can exercise the
ankle, then has to wait
another three weeks before
he can apply weight on it.
And he's tired of the recliner.
The update on Roy Mayfield
is that his heart is functioning
as it should and he needed
no stents, the doctor told him
to breathe deep instead of his
shallow breathing.
My family and I want to
thank everyone for their
cards, well wishes and flowers
on the death of my son, Rob
Pursley. At his memorial
service, many people spoke
of his kindness, his generosity
and always willing to help
anyone that needed it. And
thank you for your prayers
which we couldn't have made
it without them.
