Mia* Jessie Fae Adkereon is
enjoying a several days' visit
in Houston with her great-
uncle and great-aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Burkhalter.
Lieutenant and Mrs. E. H.
Boice of Sioux Falls, S. are
the happy parents of a baby
daughter, the young lady ar-
riving Thursday. The new ar-
rival has been named Elisa-
beth Van Every Boice, and
mother and baby are reported
to be doing nicely. Mrs. Boice
is the former Miss Mary Kath-
erine Bussey, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. F. R. Bussey of Timp-
son.
Corporal Gerald Green, is
spending a few days in Timp-
son with his wife before going
to Colorado Springs, Colorado,
where he will continue his
duties with U. S. armed forces.
He has been stationed in
Louisiana for the past several
we'eks.
Lieut, and Mrs. Joe P. Green
arrived Monday for a visit
with the former’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Green of
Timpson. The lieutenant is
stationed at Fort Snelling, (St.
Paul) Minn.
Miss Doris Burns, member
of the Eagle Pass school facul-
ty, has returned home to spend
the summer with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Burns of
this city. The Eagle Pass
school closed last week, and
the young lady took advan-
tage of the opportunity to visit
with friends at Freeport en
route home.
Miss Marie Todd, member
of the Eagle Pass school facul-
ty, has returned home to spend
the summer, her school closing
last week.

Mrs. J. VV. Kristensen and
Mrs. J. L. Bryant went to Mar-
lin Friday, for a visit with the
latter’s sister, Mrs. Walter Al-
len. Mrs. Kristensen’* broth-
er, Louis Shipp, with U. S.
army, who had been here for
a several days visit, accompa-
nied them to Camp Hood,
where he is stationed.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ramsey
have received an invitation to
attend a celebration in Eng-
land. The affair will cele-
brate the 100th mission of a
group with U. S. forces, of
which their son, Master Serge-
ant Lionel Ramsey, is a mem-
ber. Sgt, ’ Ramsey has been
overseas about a year, we are
informed. It was stated that
because of the "weather” they
probably would be unable to
acept the invitation.
Mrs. J. W. Pridgeon and
daughter of Gilmer have re-
turned home after a visit with
the lady's mother, Mrs. G. H.
Motley of this city. Mrs. Mot-
ley'accompanied them on the
return trip for a few days visit
in Gilmer.
Texas Poastal Receipts
Make Substantial Gain
Austin, Tex.—Probably due
to increased postal rates,
postal receipts in 46 Texas
cities are substanially ahead
of those at this time last year,
the University of Texas Bu-
reau of Business Research re-
veals.
Receipts for April totaled
$2,957,965, compared to $2,-'
084,655 in April, 194S. March,
1944, receipts amounted to
$2,884,186.

Mrs, Joe Crump Has
Mother’s Day Message
From Overseas
Mrs. Joe Crump has receiv-
ed a Mother’s Day message
from 1st Lt. Tom R. Cely, in
unit of U. S- forces overseas,
with which unit Pfc. Lamar S.
Perkins is connected. Mr. Per-
king is a son-in-law of Mr. and
Mrs. Crump. The lieutenant
says:
“On this Mothers’ Day it is
my distinct privilege to extend
sincere greetings to you and
express my gratitude for the
faithful and valuable service
your son is performing, not
only in our troop, but to the
war effort as a whole. As you
know, this troop has been en-
gaged in combat with the ene-
my. I will always be proud of
the gallantry and courage dis-
played by the men under my
command; no commander
ever had more justification for
this pride. This indomitable
spirit is one of our country's
finest traditions, and we real-
ize the great part our mothers
have had in shaping it.
“Never a day goes by that
we do not fondly recall the
love and affection our mothers
have showered upon us
through the years and also re-
member .the countless sacri-
fices which they have so will-
ingly bom*.
“We send our love and de-
votion to you. May God grant
us a speedy victory in this con-
flict, that we may soon return
to our homes and loved ones.”

at a meeting of the local
chamber of commerce to be
held Monday night at the
school auditorium. President
R. B. Dent and other officials
of the chamber of commerce,
are urging the people of this
section to attend the meeting
and hear these two gentlemen,
both of whom are officials of
the Borden Milk Company.
Another matter to be dis-
cussed at the meeting will be
the dairy show which is sched-
uled to be held in Timpson,
June 29th.

26. (UP)—Dr. Gibb Gilchrist,
for the past seven yean dean
of engineering, today waa
elected president of Texas A.
and M. College.
His election by the board of
directors of the school filled
the vacancy left last August
by the dismissal of Dr. T. O.
Walton.
The position of extension
director was not filled by the
board, which is standing by its
original nomination of H. D.
Eudaly for that position.
If Endaly is recommended
for the position by the new
president, immediate confirm-
ation by federal authorities in
Washington was expected.
Federal officials at present are
withholding approval of Eu-
daly’s appointment.
