Bears Upend Troup
27-6
By Jeff Hudman.
The Timpson Bears
convinced a few more
people that they are
for reai Friday night
as they sound iy de-
feated the Troup Tigers
by a 27-6 count.
The Bears led by HB
Craig Richardson with
71 yards on 13 carries
and HB Shawn Hairgrove
with 5a yards on 14
carries took advantage
of Troup miscues early
and never looked back
after rolling up 13
points in the first
6 minutes of play.
Troup took, the opening
kickoff and could
fuister nothing against
the tenacious Bear
defense. On 4th and 8
from their own 35
Troup’s Steve Medford
dropped back to punt
and let the snap get
away from him. An
attempted pass failed.
The Bears took over at
the Tiger 35. Hairgrove1
got the call for 3 and
QB Chris Hudman hit SB
Reggie Johnson for 11
more- From there
Richardson carried the
ball for 3 plays pick-
ing up 15 yards to the
5. He then burst
through the Troup de-
fense from the 5 for
the score. Hudman’$
PAT was true and the
Bears led 7-0 with
7:44 left in the 1st.
guarter.
The Bears struck again
only 1:03 later.
Following a fumble re-
covery by BL Shawn
Crawford at the Troup
17. The Bears went to
work again, this time
with Shawn Hairgrove
doing most of the work.
On 1st down Hairgrove
broke for 16 yards to
the Troup t and then
dove over or the next
play to put the Bears
up by 13. Hudman's PAT
was no good leaving
the score Timpson 13.
Troup 0 with 6:31 left
In the 1st quarter.
Troup took the enswing
kickoff and seemingly
began a drive of their
own. But again the
Bear defense rose to
the occasion and forced
the Tigers to punt from
their own 45.
Timpson took over at
the 22 and mounted
their longest drive of
the night. Hairgrove
sprinted for 19 yards
to the 41. Aided by
• pass interference
call the Beers continued
to roll and on 3 down
from the Troup 29.
Hudman pitched to Ri-
chardson who then threw
a scoring strike to
SE Jerald Moore. Hud-
man's PAT was no good
and the Bear lead was
now at 19 wttn 10:45
left in the half.
The rest of the half
was merely an exchange
of possessions with
neither team able to
establish anything.
The 3rd quarter opened
with the Bears reciev-
tng the kickoff and
moving the ball at will
just as they had done
in the 1st half. But
near midfield the
drive was stopped when
a Hudman pass was
intercepted by
Way land Mayo at the
Troup 25. The Troup ce-
lebration was short-
lived though as a Tiger
ftmtole was pounced upon
by Johnson. The Bears
were in business again
this time at the Troup
31. Timpson drove to
the Troup 3 before
another turnover killed
the scoring oppor-
tunity.
The Tigers took pos-
session on the 6 and
were once again forced
to punt this time. The

snapp sailed well over
tne head of Medford and
into the erdzone where
Troup recovered re-
sulting in a safety for
the Bears, putting them
up 21-0 barely into
the 4th quarter.
After another exchange
of possessions the Ti-
gers took over at the
Bear 40. After 2 un-
successful plays. Tiger
QB Allen Austin hit End
Sid Norman for 40 yards
and the score. PAT was
no good and the Tigers
were on the board with

Timpson 21, Troup 6.
Following an unsuc-
cessful kick by Troup,
tne Bears had the hall
Inside the 50. Richard-
son carried for 10 and
4 yards and then
snagged a Hudman aerial
for 36 more. After
battleing to the 1 yd.
line reserve R9 Mike
Osby scored with only
2 seconds left. Hud-
man's PAT was blocked,
making tne final; Timp-
son 27, and Troup 6.
We messed up by
getting ahead early
stated Bear boss Joe
Lloyd referring to the
somewhat flat Bear team
in the 2nd half. Next
week we need to play
a whole game and do
away with our mis-
takes.
In the statistics
department the Bears
were paced by Richard-
son with 71 yds. on 13
carries and by Hair-
grove with 54 yds. on
14 carries. Medford
led all Troup runners
with 16 carries for
58 yds. Hudman was 5 of
tl for 66 yds. and 1
interception and
Richardson was 1 of 1
for 29 yds.' and 1 TD
in the passing dept.
The recieving corps
were led bv Richardson
with 2 catches for 48
yd. and Moore
with 2 catches for 36
yards and 1 TD.
Although the Bear fan
attendance was large
they seemed almost
lifeless with very
little support being
offered for their
team. Someone needs
to wake these people
up and make them real-
ize that the Bears are
reai contenders and
they need the verbal
support of the crowd.
Jans play an important
part in the attitude
and outlook of the
athlete. The next time
you see a Timpson Bear,
tell him that you ap-
preciate him and that
you enjoy watching him
play. Pride builds cha-
racter and in turn,
champions. And our
Bears are Champions!!!
Go support the Bears
this week in Seckville
as they take on the
Bearcats in the 1st
district ball game.
