OFFICE—From Buford
Parrish. I hope this finds you
two doing better. I know you
are familiar with hospitals and
related.
I was going to cancel my
good Paper for lack of ability
to pick it up. Eve been gone
from home beginning January
27.1 have many copies but will
read each as time and health
permit.
I have been in 5 hospitals
and nursing homes with a staph
infection. All trips except one
were by ambulance. A new
way to travel for me. Don’t
know how I got MRSA infec-
tion at my new home at Cam-
bridge Square Retirement Cen-
ter. I almost left you all before
our nurse manager saw I was
high with fever. The ambu-
lance rushed me to the nearest
first aid, being Polly Ryan
Hospital, that’s the law, then
on to Methodist Hospital,
Sugar Land ICU for 4 days for
removing the infection. Later,
on to a nursing home. A blad-
der infection developed, which
we are still fighting. Next an
ambulanc took me to Hermann
Memorial, Houston late at
night. A temporary Pace
Maker was attached to keep me
alive ‘till next day’s operation.
A new one was placed in the
next day. The staph infection
got into the new Pace Maker
and it was removed for 10 days
while I was on temporary pace
makers. Finally the real thing
was installed ... Stayed on for

CONGRATULA-
TIONS—To Evelyn Christo-
pher of Timpson. Her baby girl
weighed 7 lbs. & 8 oz., was
born July 24, 2006 and is
named Shardae Sierria Caprice
Christopher.
DIBOLL, TX—A nice
note from Lloyd D. Adkison:
“I wish to have you know how
much I enjoy the paper.Having
been born and raised in the
area, I am able to read about
my old friends and family in
the area. Thanks so much.”
(.Thanks to you, Lloyd, for the
kind words. As the old folks
used to say, “Come when you
can. ”
OFFICE—heard from
Faye Bryce. She enjoys news
from home.”
CENTER-Can you believe
that plans are underway for
the30th annual East Texas
Poultry Festival? Yep, it is to
be held October 5, 6 & 7th.
Like I said, “time flies!”
VISITOR—We had a visi-
tor Tuesday evening. Our
former old kitty cat, was
brought in by his new family
and we held him and enjoyed
him again. He looks really
good and has had surgery for
kidney stones! Believe it! He
was a really nice cat.
OFFICE—Lynn came in
and helped us work this week.
He sold advertising, covered a
meeting, made pictures and did
all kinds of stuff. Sure is good
to have him here. He is just a
great guy! And knows almost
all there is to know about com-
puters. In fact, he set ours up
the way they are now. The only
thing is, there is a red wasp in
here that is after him. He has
been stung once and is on the
lookout for them. I hear that
they have been especially ram-
pant this year.
TENAHA—What hap-
pened to Tenaha United Meth-
odist Church columnist, Judge
Brennian-Nease and Thursday
Already ‘s Tenaha Secretary?
Are they gone off someplace or
did Bear get after them or
what? Sure do miss them and I
know all of Tenaha and every-
one else does, too.
JUST CURIOUS!

Things you can live without knowing if you have to
Ever hear “dawn crack” or
“night fall?” Noisy?
Where did the word
“pandering” originate?
Remember the children’s
game called, “leapfrog?’
Where did that start?
Did you know that a black
widow spider’s poison is 15
times more powerful than
snake venom?
Where did the term “jackpot’
originate? Wonder who hit it
first?
Who was the first to call an
ungodly person a ‘heathen?’
Ever wonder why folks say
their noses run? Fast?
Why do folks ask the
question, “You expect me to
* swallow” that, when told a tale
unbelievable?
Narcotics operation nets second
time arrests of cocaine dealers
Sheriff Newton Johnson re-
ports that back on March 2,
2006 the Shelby County
Sheriff’s Department executed
a narcotics search warrant at
1314 Shelbyville Street, #19,
in Center, Texas. This search
warrant was executed after an
undercover investigation last-
ing several months was com-
pleted.
The Shelby County
Sheriff’s Department was as-
sisted by the Center Police
Department and Agents from
the U.S. Drug Enforcement
Administration.
Sheriff Johnson says that at
that time two occupants of this
residence were arrested and
charged with possession of a
controlled substance. The oc-
cupants were identified as 43
year old Nicolas Moreno Leon
and his wife, 40 year old Maria
De Jesus Garcia. Nicolas Leon
was released on a $5,000.00
bond and Maria Garcia was re-
leased on a $10,000.00 bond.
The items seized during that
search warrant included Co-
caine, Marijuana, Cash, a Rifle
and a Pistol along with several
types of ammunition.
Sheriff Johnson says that in
May of 2006 the Shelby
County Sheriff’s Department
received information that these
same subjects were back in
business selling illegal narcot-
ics from the same residence. At
that point, another undercover
investigation was started re-
sulting in the execution of an-
other narcotics search warrant
at this location on August 4,
2006.
This search warrant re-
sulted in the seizure of approxi-
mately ten (10) grams of co-
caine, approximately
$3,000.00 in cash, a .22 cali-
ber rifle, a .32 caliber derrin-
ger, digital scales and narcot-
ics paraphernalia.
Arrested during this search
warrant on August 4, 2006
were 43 year old Nicolas Leon,
his wife 40 year old Maria
Garcia and their daughter 17
year old Raquel Leon. All
three have been charged with
the Second Degree Felony of-
fense of Possession of a Con-
trolled Substance. A young

child was also living at the resi-
dence and he was released to
CPS.
Sheriff Johnson said that
since Nicolas Leon and Maria
Garcia were already out on
bond for the F elony Offense of
Possession of Controlled Sub-
stance they now remain in the
Shelby County Jail under No
Bond.
Raquel Leon had her bond
set at $25,000.00 and she was
released on bond on August 6,
2006.

Sheriff’s Department with this
search warrant was the Center
Police Department, the Shelby
County District Attorney’s Of-

Made a good visit to the
County Seat Monday. Hadn’t
been to the courthouse in a
while and really enjoyed see-
ing everyone. Made a stop in
the County Clerk’s office first
and they were busy as bees
there!
Folks in and out needing
copies, filing papers, doing re-
search and all that. It is a very
efficient office, well organized
and the scene of important
work I saw County Clerk
Allison Harbison, beautiful
and friendly as usual ... and
working as usual. She gave me
permission to visit around and
meet her deputies.
First, I talked to Rebecca
Schriewer, who has served as
deputy in that office for nine
years. Rebecca has two
daughters and four grands,
who call her Memaw. We
talked a bit about grandchil-
dren and both agreed kids and
grandkids make this world
worth while.
About that time, someone
came in with a new probate
to be filed. She said this will
have to be posted on the door
and a person who wants to
contest it has ten (10) days to
do it in. Interesting. A person
could learn a lot about the law
concerning probates, guard-
ian ships, birth certificates and
marriage licenses while doing
an interview for a newspaper
at the County Clerk’s office.
Also, more people are doing
family research these days, so
a lot goes on with that.
You’ll like Rebecca, she is
knowledgeable, helpful and
friendly and smiles a lot! Oth-
ers I met and will tell you
about later are Sarah, Jenni-
fer, Darlene, Micah
Tramanski and Mandy. So
keep reading.
Said hi to Tracy Strong
from Joaquin in the office next
to Dock Watson. She is look-
ing good and working hard. I
couldn’t believe she doesn’t
read our paper! Better send her
one.
Carolyn Golden was in her
office. Been knowing Carolyn
for several years. Her dad is
Ozro Bush. She has a beauti-
ful picture of a granddaughter
riding a four-wheeler (small)
on it. Cute as pie. Carolyn has
traveled this summer to Tulsa,
Oklahoma, San Antonio, Tx,
Savanna, Georgia and was on
vacation in Mississippi where
they saw the big plantations on
the Mississippi River (Gone
With The Wind types). How-
ever the weather was too hot to
linger long in one place.
We talked about old times,
how hot it used to be and the
way old folks lived back in
hard times. She learned about
this from Ozro. We said so long
and she went back to doing
the payroll. See you soon.
