The Erath County United
Way (ECUW) is excited to
announce a new funding
opportunity for non-profits
serving the citizens of Erath
County.
The New Programs &
Special Grants fund is
designed to provide funding
for programs or needs that
fall outside of the annual
United Way allocation
guidelines. In particular,
grants are intended to help
with new programs, capiti
improvements, or one-time
community projects that
are consistent with the
goals and mission of
ECUW.
“We recognize that there
are some programs and
needs in our community
that may not fit into United
Way's traditional annual
funding priorities.” said Dr.
Lisette Dottavio, Chair of
the ECUW Special Grants
Committee. “But they are
still important to our
community, and deserve
our support. By expanding
the funding opportunities
to our local agencies, we
hope to fill any gaps in
services to those in need in
our community, making
Erath County a better place
for all of us,” she
continued.

HOT POTATOES - A small but vocal audience was on hand Thursday for a public forum
with Congressman Mike Conaway who is now in his fourth term representing the 11th
Congressional District which for the first time includes part of Erath County. Questions
were raised on wasting money on foreign aid and the scandal at the IRS. His discussion
covered the gamut on what is going on in Washington. The event was sponsored by the
Dublin Chamber of Commerce. Conaway was also in Comanche and Stephenville.
Highland News by
READY - City Electric was busy this week getting electricity ready for temporary structures
being placed at the student parking lot of Dublin High School. The movement of the three
temporary buildings (one from behind the high school and two from the junior high
campus) is to be completed this week for housing of students until construction of
classrooms at the school can be completed.

Dear Editor,
My selection as Intelligence
Officer Candidate for the
Air Force was a process
that started approximately
I went to the Marine Corp
Educator’s Workshop in San
Diego to learn about what
the Marines had to offer
our high school graduates
and in turn surprised myself
when I realized l was
interested in military
service.
I was too old for the
Marines, but began the
process applying to become
an officer in the Air Force.
The process involved
aptiude testing, medical
examinations, interviews,
and background checks,
but in April I received a
letter informing me that I
had been assigned a class
date for Officer Training
School.
After 9 weeks at OTS in
Montgomery, Alabama, I
will rejoin my wife Anne at
Goodfellow AFB in San
Angelo where she will be
teaching (ith grade history.
Leaving my post as
assistant principal has been
the hardest decision of my
professional life because

"We Mafe You

has blessed my life.
It has truly been a treat to
work with the
administration, teachers,
students and community.
We’ve had a great deal of
success this year and Great
things are still to come for
Dublin I.S.D.
I leave the Dublin
community with the
following charge: As
“problems” come up in the
community or school
district view them as
opportunities to show the
phenomenal ability the
Dublin community has to
overcome to the world.

Dear Editor,
We just wanted to take
this opportunity to say a
very public thanks to the
many people who make the
Cow Pasture Golf Classic
possible every year - and at
the top of that list are Clay
and Scott Estes.
Literally, this event could
not happen without them.
The land which they
generously allow us to use
each year is not just ANY
cow pasture - it is THE cow
pasture which is the focus
of our event. The land is the
site of the old Dublin-
DeLeon Golf Course where
Ben Hogan won his last
amateur event in 1929.
That’s why it is called
Hogan's Forgotten Fairways
and it's the reason our
golfers endure (and perhaps
enjoy) walking and playing
where the best ball striker
in golf history got his start.
This piece of property is
Jackie and Judy James
went to Joshua Friday to
help celebrate their
grandson, Caleb Boles's
13th birthday. Also, their
church, Greens Creek
Baptist Church, will have
their VBS during the week
of June 24-28, from 9:00-
12:00.
Tommy and Mary Hooks
went to Kerrville over the
weekend to visit with their
great niece and nephew
who were visiting from
absolutely beautiful this
year, with lush grass and
lots of wildflowers and
blooming cactus. And the
huge cow which greeted
visitors at the Estes gate
made a great photo op.
As always we can count
on these good friends to
prepare yummy barbecue
for our golfers. Clay's
Smokehouse goes above
and beyond to provide a
meal which the golfers brag
about when they go back
home. This year Miles
Gilman of Granny Clark's
added to our menu with
delicious side dishes and
dessert.
At the end of the day, we
are relieved that it is over
and we love it when the
golfers want to know what
day it will be played next
year so they can get it
marked on their calendar.
Again and again, we owe
our sincere appreciation to
Clay Estes, Scott Estes and
Clay’s Processing and
Smokehouse for all they do
to make this event such a
success. It truly could not
happen without you.

There was no listing for
the menu for Sunday’s
lunch unless it's still "Pot
Luck" whereas some will be
returning home from camp
week and may not want to
concern themselves on
what to cook and go for
pot luck again.
Alice Keith said she and
Norma Nell House attended
the Round Grove Cemetery
meeting last Saturday. And
Sunday, she went to
Highland Baptist Church
with Norma Nell. Then the
family went with Missionary
John and Christi Barnes to
Brown wood where John
was a guest speaker.
Monday, the family all went
bowling to celebrate Jordan
Barnes's birthday and had
a great time. Alice asked
me if 1 had ever gone
bowling and 1 said yes. On
my first try, my bowling
ball slipped and it went
behind me.
Sue and Dwane Gary
bought a new lawn mower.
I teased Sue and asked if
she got a push mower or a
riding one. She said, “Was I
nuts?” She got a riding
one.
Keith Family Reunion is
Saturday, June 15, 2013 at
First United Methodist
Church on Highland Ave in
Dublin. Please tell all your
family in case some have
been missed.
