Rond* Darlene Roth, daughter of Wanda Williams of Winnsboro, and
Walt Anthony Hux, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald D. Hux of Pickton, were
married Oct. 3 in Harper, Kan., in the home of the bride's grandparents.
Reception Planned
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Ballard will celebrate their 25th wedding an-
niversary with a reception from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, in the
Sulphur Springs State Bank community room. The event will be hosted by
their daughters, Sharon Hargrove and Judy Faulkner. Friends and
relatives of the couple are Invited to attend.
Miranda Osarhio Honored
With First Birthday Party
Miranda Lynn Osomio, grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Clover of Sulphur Springs, celebrated
her first birthday Sunday, Dec. 9, at
her grandparent’s house.
The theme for the party was the
Peanuts design with a cake decorated
as Strawberry Shortcake.
Guests of honor were the adoptive
"great” grandmother of the honoree,
Marie Edwards, and the godmother
of the honoree, Betty Petrea.
Guests attending from Sulphur
Springs included the honoree’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Osomio;
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Clover; uncles, Henry Clover III and
Felix M. Osomio; Graciela Rojo,
Morilio and Rosa Rojo, Vemice and
Roseanna; Mrs. Freu, Cris and
Carla; Tobie Parnell and Justin.
Out-of-town guests included Mr.
and Mrs. PeeWee Petrea, Lisa, Tina,
Jason and Tony, all of Shirley.
The honoree received an array of
gifts. She also received a telephone
call from her great grandma and
grandpa, Dewey and Nancy Over-
street of Irving and great uncles
Micheal and Tommy Overstreet of
Irving.

THE SENIOR Citizens Activity
Center, 150 Hinnant St., will be closed
Dec. 25-Jan. 1 for the holidays.
SEVERAL ACTIVITIES are
planned for Friday, Dec. 21, at the
Senior Citizens Activity Center, 150
Hinnant St. A blood pressure check
will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by
a covered dish lunch at noon. Games
will.be played before and after lunch.
A Christmas party will be held at 2
p.m. Everyone is invited to par-
ticipate.

promoted
in AFROTC
Sam Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
P. Johnson of Sulphur Springs has
been promoted to the grade of Cadet
First Lieutenant in the Air Force
Reserve Officer Trailing Corps
(AFROTC) at East Texas State
University.
"His promotion is the result of a
selection process that promotes only
the most capable cadets in East
Texas State’s AFROTC program,”

Aerospace Studies faculty, said.
Cadet Johnson is a 1981 graduate of
Sulphur Springs High School. He is
now a senior majoring in computer
science. As a AFROTC cadet,
Johnson is a full-time student
working on his bachelor’s degree. In
addition to his regular college
curriculum, he takes an Air Force
Aerospace Studies course each
semester.

Mrs. Morris (Agnes) Brem passed
away Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Arlington.
Funeral services were held at 3:30
p.m. Thursday in Moore funeral
chapel, Arlington. Interment was in
Moore Memorial Gardens. She was a
former Saltillo resident and had
retired from 30 years teaching in the
Arlington school district. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church,
Order of the Eastern Star, the Delta
Kappa Gamma Society ana the
Arlington Woman’s Club. Her
husband Morris preceded her in
death in March, 1984.\Survivors are
two sons, Dr. M.D. Bi*em, Jr., John
H. Brem; a daughter, Jqne Duff;
granchildren William, Margaret and
Ben Duff and Mary Brem, all of
Arlington.
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Summers and
Cressie Pope of Hallsville spent
Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack
Ivey.

Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs
Tuesday night.

of instruction Dec. 11 in Greenville
were: Mr. and Mrs.'Charlie Adams,
Mrs. Ardys Dennis, Mrs. Irabelle
Barnes and Bill and Nelda Gurley.
Joining them that night for the"
fraternal visit of the Worthy Grand
Matron were Mrs. Laurene McGill,
Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Adair and Mrs.

Christmas party in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Orval Click in Cedar Hill.
They spent Saturday night with Mrs.

Miss Cathey Turner attended a birth-
day dinner in Rockwall Sunday
honoring R.B.’s brother, Bo Bennett.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Conley are
patients in Franklin County Hospital.
Loy Orren attended the Exxon Red
River Valley Annuity Christmas
party and luncheon at the Ramada
Inn in Mt. Pleasant Thursday. Gifts
were exchanged and a wonderful
time was enjoyed by all. Because of
Illness, Mary Jo ws unable to attend
so the president sent her a lovely
plate lunch.
David Harris, Trish Jackson and
son Jonathan of Dallas visited Mr.
and Mrs. Les Harris Friday and
Saturday night.

staying home getting ready for the
Christmas holidays. There is not
much news available.
Mrs. Ethel Butler hosted a
Christmas dinner last Tuesday for
her lady friends who have worked
together through the years. Present
were Jeanette Willis, Rosa Jones,
Harriett McClendon of Commerce,
Verdis Logsdon of Sulphur Springs,
Robin Petty of Cumby and Uvonne
Chester.
Lorene Bunch of Garland spent last
weekend with Lou Ada and Malcom
Gregg.
Ruby Tomlinson Wilson of Lub-
bock, a former Birthright resident, is
home now, slightly improved, after
spending 26 days in the hospital.
Mrs. Flippin is ill at the home of
her daughter, Maurice Weir.
A large crowd of members and
their guest of the Birthright United
Methodist church enjoyed a covered
dish supper, a Christinas program
and exchanged gifts at the church
annex Sunday night.
Brad Martin and Janet Gibby are
home from Texas A & M, College
Station, for the Christmas holidays.
Richard Butterfield and family of
Omaha spent the weekend with his
mother Chrysteen Decco. Kathryn
and Wendell Brandenburgh also
visited with Chrysteen since she has
not been feeling well.

Home-makers met Thursday
December 13 for their Christinas
party at the home of Genevieve
Jackson, with a dinner and gift ex-
change. Some very enjoyable
Christmas readings were presented.

Program at the Baptist Church
Sunday night was enjoyed by all who
attended. Refreshments were served
after the program.

monthly covered dish dinner at the
Tira community center. Bring your
dish and come eat with us and sing
the Birthday song to those having
December birthdays. .
Peggy and Jack Felton, of
Childress spent Thursday night with
her aunt Mary D. and uncle Claude
Brice. They all spent Friday with
Mary D’s sister, Stella Hawkins in
Sulphur Springs. Claude and Mary
Dee attended tiie children’s^program
at the Nazarene Chureh^MKujphur
Springs Sunday. Their great gran-
daughter, Shonda Brice, was a
particular in the program.
Mrs. Edd Sullivan was in Delta
Nursing Home, in Cooper, four days
last week to visit her brother J.E.
Weir. His wife, Moline, has been very
ill at home. She also, visited Bill and
Addie Mae Weir at their home, and
Mai Bruton and daughter Velma
Chestnut.
Larry Robertson, of Lubbock, who
has been recently transferred to
work in Sulphur Springs, spent last
week with the Gay Weir family. His
wife spent Thursday night with them.
They hope to gSTfhoved to Sulphur
Springs as soon as possible.
Viola Chapman visited Audrey
Anderson Sunday.
Mozelle Davis attended Church
service here Sunday and ate lunch
with Lillian Brice. They attended the
50th wedding anniversery reception
honoring Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Lawson
at Tira Community Center Sunday
afternoon. A large number at friends
and relatives were there.
Fay (Hardgrave) Dawson visited
Gertrude Amis Sunday. Elsie Pace
was there Saturday.
We were saddened to learn that the
funeral service for Glen Hardgrave,
a former resident here, were held
Friday in Dallas. He grew up here
and had always been a supporter at
Tira, Cemetery Perpetual Care and
made many* donations to the
cemetery. He served several years in
the U.S. Navy and had a military
funeral held in Dallas.
Peggy and Charles1 Deaton visited
her parents Leslie and Beulah
Wester, Wednesday.
Gay and Ruth Chapman were in
Dallas Sunday to help their son Jerry
Bert celebrate another birthday.
Their grandchildren, Ricky, Diane
and Little Josh were there also, for
the dinner.
Joyce and Johnny Johnson and
grandson of Mesquite visited Troy
and Georgia Smith over the week-
end. They all shopped in Sulphur
Springs Saturday. *
MeUa (Tot) Davis was in Com-
merce Monday to sell pecans. Rains
and lack of pecans pickers are
delaying pecan gathering.
Michael Dodd is home for school
vacation and hopes to do his share on
pecan picking.
Earl Smith returned to V.A.
Hospital in Dallas Monday for more
therapy.
June and Jerry Vissel spent the
weekend with her mother, Mildred
Chapman.
Gregg, Debbie and Jordan Baach,
of Fort Worth, spent the weekend
with Joe and Charlotte Killian.
Sammy and Johnny Weir ate lunch
with Carl and Joan Melton Sunday.
Virginia Hillis is working at Brick-
wood Manor Nursing Home in
Cooper.

Drivers escape injury
in two-vehicle crash
Two minor accidents early
Thursday morning occurred when a
truck van overturned one mile east of
Cumby on Interstate 30. A second
vehicle struck the overturned van
five minutes later, according to
Department of Public Safety Trooper
Roger Maynard.
The eastbound 1983 van driven by
William White, 25, of Tucson, Ariz.,
went out of control at 3:10 a.m. and
overturned when White fell asleep at
the wheel, leaving the vehicle’s rear
end blocking the inside of the lane,
Maynard said.
At 3:15 a.m., a 1973 Chevrolet
driven by Wimberly Ann Wade, 22, of
Pittsburg, who was also eastbound,
collided with the van. The left fender
of the Chevrolet struck the van. A
trailer being towed by the Chevrolet
also collided with the van.
The trailer was demolished and the
van received extensive damage. The
Chevrolet received moderate
damage, Maynard said.
No injuries were reported.
State Bank
approves dividend
Directors of the Sulphur Springs
State Bank have voted a fourth-
quarter dividend of $1.50 per share on
the bank’s stock, payable Dec. 27 to
shareholders of record Dec. 15. The
quarterly dividend brings the annual
dividend for the year at the bank to $3
per share.
Directors also voted year-end
bonus payments to employees of the
