ROWAND'S TONIC MIXTURE or Vegetable Febri-
fuge; a specific and lasting cure tor the Fever and Ague.
This worthy remedy earnestly repels the slur of being a quack
medicine it having been the result of many years' stud' expe-
rience and labor in the medical practice and obvseration of
FEVER AND AGUE. It is composed ol such medicinal
principles as were considered roost fit to resiore the harmony of
action between the Stomach Liver and the other important
functions of the system the loss of which harmony is evidently
the immediate cause of the disease. It speedily promotes a re-
gular and healthy appetite which is generally entirely destroy-
ed or rendered very precarious; by which effect vigor and
strength is soon afforded to the whole system. T must be ap-
parent to all that a medicine possessing these peculiar virtues
is uselul in a great variety of complaints. By renewing the
healthy aclior of the digestive organs it has proved itself of re-
maikable benefit in Dyspepsia Depraved Appeli.e Hearl-hurn
"Water Brash Flatulency Jandice Night Sweats Dysentary
Bowel Complaints and many other affections ol similar origin.
But it is in the treatment of Fevers and especially in FEVER
AND AGUE or Intermittant Fever that its powers have been
principally tested and with those who have seen its usefulness
it is pronounced sovereign toall remedies heretofore discovered
for those diseases. It has also been used as a preventive by
many who were subject to a periodical recurrence of the'Cbilis
and Fever and it has always warded off the apprehended attack.
For furiher account of its great usefulness see pamphlets ac-
companying each bottle. Just received and for sale by

TO FAMILIES AND INVALIDS. -
THE following indispensable family remedies may be found at
the village drug stores and soon at every country store in the
state. Remember and never get them unless they have the fac-
simile signature of ComsocA-if- Co. on the wrappers as all others
by the same names are base impositions and counterfeits. If the
merchant nearest you has them not urge him to procure them at
71 Maiden-lane the next time he visits New York or to write for
tliem. io lamity should be a weeK without these remedies.
Baldness Balm of Columbia for the Hair
which will stop it if falling out orrestoreit on bald places; and on
children make it grow rapidly or on those who have lost the hair
lrom any cause. All vermin that infest the heads of children :n
schools are prevented or killed by it at once. Find the name of
Comstock d Co on it or never try it. Remember this always.
Rheumatism and Lameness positively cured and all shrivelled
muscles and limbs are restored in theoldand young by the Indian
Vegetable Elyxir and Nerve and Bone Liniment but never with-
out the name of Comstock & Co. on it.
THE WESTERN ADVOCATE.
THE uudersigned proposes to publish during the ensuing
year in the City of Austin a Newspaper to be styled "The
Western Advocate."
As its name purports the entire object of the paper willjbe
to support the Western portion of Texas and sustain the char-
acter and interests ot its inhabitants against the violent and
lawless attempts which have been made and are still making
to ruin the one and prostrate the other. In doing this it will
animadvert freely though justly upon the course heretofore
pursued by the Executive and should he continue that course
every effort will be made to cenvey correct information in re-
gard to his conduct into every section of the Republic so that
the Representatives of the people in meeting in Congress at its
next session may come prepared to apply the only legitimate
remedy fur Executive usurpation and a tyrannical abue ol
power.
In the Editorial department of the paper the undersigned
will be aided by Gentlemen deeply devoted to the Western in-
terests who have made its true policy their whole study for
months ast and every exertion will be used both by them and
himself to present that policy in its proper light to the world.
In undertaking this enterprise the undersigned has no wish
oi expectation ol making it subservient to his individual gain.
He and those who will labor with him are entirely willing to
give their time and exertions without compensation for the ac-
complishment of the great object they have in view; andshould
they succeed by the dissemination of correct information abroad
in restoring the Western interests heretofore greatly impaired
by usurpation and violence they will feel amply rewarded for
their trouble. To do this however some expenses will be in-
curred which the undersigned is unable to bear and he must
depend upon the assistance of his friends and those who think
and feel with him on this occasion to meet those expenses.
The paper will be of medium size and issued once m two
weeks at the moderate price of two dollars per annum ; and as
the undersigned is aware of the great scarcity of money and has
no other object in making a charge than to cover the expenses
which will unavoidably attend the enterprize he is willing to
receive merchantable produce at its market value provided the
same be delivered to any merchant in the neighborhood of the
person subsreribing and the receipt of such merchant taken
there for and forwarded to the undersigned ordelivered to his
agents on or before the first day of May next.
The Western Advocate will noi only be issued and forward-
ed to subscribers regulaily but will be sent to every portion ol
the Republic and to distant points it will be sent free of charge.

MATAGORDA ACADEMY.
The Rev. C. S. IVES and Lady would respectfully inform the
citizens of this place and its vicinity that they are now prepared to
receive pupils of both sexesinto their institution and to instruct them
in all the branches of a substantial and finished education.
From the delightful location and health of Matagorda; from the
comforts and convenience of a well-built town; from a strong desire
of the people to establish and maintain a high tone of moral feeling
in the community; from the laudable observance of the Lord's day
and regular attendance of the citizens on Divine Service which is
now held uninterruptedly on every Sunday ; and from there being a
regular Sunday School in town this cannot but be a very desirable
place for an institution for the education of the young.
Mr. Ives is a graduate of one of the first colleges in the United
States; and Mrs. Ives was educated in the best schools for young
ladies in New England ; besidrs which they have both for many
years past been engaged either as Principals or Assistants In the first
literary institutions in the United States. For their qualifications
success and reputation in teaching they leave the following testimo-
nials to speak.
TESTIMONIALS.
"I have been leng acquainted with the Rev. Mr. Ives and Know
him to be an excellent classical and English scholar. Mrs. Ive3
taught a female seminary for several years m the city of Hartford
Connecticut with distinguished reputation. I have full confidence
in the qualifications of Mr and Mrs Ives to conduct a seminary of
the highest order in such a manner as to afford general satisfaction
T. C. BROWNELL D.D. L.L.D.
Bishop of the Dioceseof Connecticut."
"I have been acquainted with the Rev. Caleb S. Ives for many
years past and during the last two years have been associated with
him as an officer of this institution. I have found him excellently
fitted in all respects to be an instructor of youth. His industry de-
cision and patient good temper qualify him in a high degree as a
governor o the young while his accurate scholarship and untiring
zeal render him equally successful as a teacher. In committing their
children to the instruction of Mr. Ives parents may feel the most
assurance that they are placing them under the care of one who is
perfectly competent to all he undertakes and who will look with the
most scrupulous care to the fulfilment of every trust committed to
him.
