is still active serving on boards
and offering advice and encour-
agement to eager business people
that he meets
In 1041, he began working at
WOAI channel 4 in the engineer
ig and
slide presentations. Seeing no real
competition, Matson and a friend,
Henry Gere, fulfilled the requests
in a piart time way.
By 1966, Matson had enough
business to leave broadcasting
and start Matson Multi-Media.
For Matson, looking for un-met
needs has always extended into
the nonprofit area.
“When you have a chance to ful-
fill a need, it gets your juices flow-
ing because you’re helping
someone else,” said Matson.
Matson has donated complete
audio visual or visual presenta-
tions to over 22 charities to help
them with marketing, and begin
agencies as the!
Bank and the Salvation Army
“It’s not good to spend 60-70
hours a week on your own busi-
ness because you lose perspec-
tive,” said Matson. “You start
being counterproductive. Working
with a social service agency gives
you a fresh perspective, and a
chance to meet other people in the
community.”
After 33 years, Matson sold his
company and retired from busi-
ness. A job Matson will never re-
tire from is that of personal
cheerleaders. A hobby ot his, now,
is to attend various meetings look-
ing for people who have leadership
potential, but don’t realize it
‘Tm involved with organizations
that are looking for up and com-
ing leaders," said Matson “And it
keeps me among people who en-
ergize me."
