Planter Boxes
Are Group Project
Planter boxes recently placed
in downtown Silsbee were pur-
chased with funds obtained
from the special LfeJ FUhd set
up from money sent in lieu of
flowers for President Lyndon
B. JohnSoh’s funeral, according
to Jim Giliard.
PFA boys under Giliard built
the boxes at Silsbee High
School and three representa-
tives from each gaHIeh club s#
lected the plants. Committee
members in charge of setting
the plants and distribution of
planter boxes represented the
Camp Fire Girls, Leo Club,
FHA and FFA.
Mrs. Bobby Bearden was
chairman, under the direction
of Joe Watson.
The City of Silsbee donated
the soil and fertilizer and Gene
Evans gave the mutch for the
boxes.

Ed Grahatn will be honored
with a party celebrating his
88th birthday Sunday in t h e
Silsbee Convalescent Center,
where he resides. Calling hours
will be from 1 uhtil 3 p.m.
His children include one
daughter, Mrs. Elmer Holly-
field of Silsbee, and one son,
J. T. Graham of Cleburne.
A native of West Texas, he
moved to East Texas as a
young man, lived in Fred be-
fore moving to Silsbee 19 years
ago. He is a retired Kirby Lum-
ber Corp. employee and a Bap-
tist.
He has five grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.

Latter-Day Saints
To Hold Benefit
Walk-A-Thon
The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints will hold
a Walk-a-thon May 5 to bene-
fit their church building pro-
gram. A $750,000 Stake Center
has been proposed to provide
for meetings and activities of
about 3,000 church members
living in the areas of Beau-
mont, Silsbee, Buna, Woodville,
Port Arthur, Vidor, Orange and
Lake Charles. The building is
to be built in West Beaumont.
The Stake president is Dr. Don-
ald L. Hilton of Port Arthur.
The 10-mile walk will begin
at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at
the Williamson Ward. The
Orange County Sheriff’s De-
partment will oversee the walk
as it proceeds down Hwy. 2802
and Dixie Drive. Over 200 peo-
ple from the area will be par-
ticipating in ages ranging from
ne year to 83. The total goal
from this project is expected to
exceed $15,000.00.
