Annual Livestock
Survey Starting
Postmaster C. O. (instead an-
nounced today that Rural Mail
Carriers will begin distributing
Livestock Survey Cards to pat-
rons on their routes Friday.
This annual livestock survey,
which the Post Office and Agri-
culture Departments coopera-
tively have made since 1924. pro-
vides basic information to the
Texas Crop and Livestock Re-
porting Service in Austin for
estimating number of cattle,
hogs, sheep and chickens on
Texas farms and ranches.
In order that this area be
well represented in the survey,
Onstead. requests each patron
receiving a card to fill it out and
return it to his mail box for
prompt pick up.

A full report of one of the
most successful Livestock Shows
in both numbers and quality of
stock shown in its history, was
presented to the Directors of
the Ellis County Purebred Live-
stock Association Tuesday night
by officials of the show. How-
ever, the financial report of the
years operation submitted by
Secy-Treasurer, John McElroy
did not read so good as a small
financial loss was shown.
Plans were made at this meet-
ing by the Directors for holding

the 1958 show it was brought out
that 95 dairy cattle were shown,
77 beef cattle, 83 sheep, 104
hogs and 35 pens of poultry.
Total prizes paid to the exhibi-
tors amounted to $2,479.75.

Pledges at TWU
DENTON— Eight literary-soc-
ial clubs at Texas Woman’s Uni-
versity this week announced lists
of their fall pledges.
All of the clubs are affiliated
with the Texas Federation of
Women’s Clubs and endeavor to
stimulate interest in art, litera-
ture, music and drama. They
also sponsor various social
events for members.
Sophomores, juniors and sen-
iors ’at the University are eli-
gible for membership in the
clubs.
Pledges have been assigned
"big sisters” for the week and
will perform various duties for
them. They will also assist in a
service project for the school.
Initiations will be held after
Thanksgiving.
