• This past week, the
Plantersville-Stoneham
Fire Department held
their banquet. Congratu-
lations to Chief Michael
Briggs for being awarded
Firefighter of the Year
Award and most calls.
Jennifer Mock was
awarded Rookie of the
Year. Ronnie Wishkoski
was awarded the Most
Improved Firefighter
award.
• The 62nd Grimes
County Fair is slated for
May 29 through June 7.
Rylie Cude, daughter of
Allen and Shannon Cude,
Is running for Grimes
County Fair princess this
year. She is the vice pres-
ident of the Courtney-
Whitehall 4-H and is a
green belt in karate.
Rylie also helps teach
children in church on
Sundays. She attends
Navasota Junior High and
is in the eighth grade.
The pass is $15 until May
29, and $20 after that.

held their meeting this
past Sunday. Tickets for
the Chicken to go barbe-
cue were handed out. The
barbecue will be held
April 27, at the hall, from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you

Stew supper Thursday for
St. Joseph Altar Society

• St. Joseph Altar Soci-
ety will hold their annual
Stew Supper on Thursday,
March 20, at their parish
hall in Stoneham. Stew and
all the trimmings will be
served beginning at 6:30
p.m. Adult plates will be $8
per plate and $4 for chil-
dren 12 and under. A raffle
will accompany the supper.
• A benefit will be held
for John Wayne Mattem on
Saturday, March 22, from
11 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the
Dobbin Community Center
in Dobbin. There will be
barbecue plates and sand-
wiches, live music, bake
sale, silent auction and a
raffle.
Johnny was diagnosed
with prostate cancer last
year. In January, he under-
went surgery and has been
unable to work for the past
six months. Bills are
mounting and this family
needs financial help and
support. For more informa-

The Grimes County
Poor Boys will hold a
monthly meeting April 1,
at 7 p.m., at the Anderson
Volunteer Fire Department
building.
• The Grimes County
Country Music Show, ben-
efiting the Sunshine Cen-
ter, will be held at the
Knights of Columbus Hall
in Anderson on Sunday,
March 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets
are $5 each and door prizes
will be handed out. If you
have never been to one of
these types of shows, you
are in for a treat. For more

• Bingo is slated for
Wednesday, March 26, at
10:30 a.m., at the Sunshine
