• The Shiro Volunteer
Fire Department will hold
their annual Christmas
party on Friday, Dec. 13, at
7 p.m., at the Shiro Civic
Association on Volunteer
Drive in Shiro. There will
be refreshments and Santa
will be there for the kids.
Last year it wasn’t just
the kids that had their pic-
ture taken with the Jolly
Old Man; quite a few of
the adults got into the act.
• With all the cold
weather we’re having, you
might want to check En-
tergy’s website. They have
tips for winter proofing
your home.
Also, you can sign up
so that, in the event of an
outage, they will either call
or text and keep you
posted on updates. Re-
cently, when we had an
outage out our way, they
called every 30 minutes.
• If you have propane
heaters, you need to have
them checked and also put
new batteries in your car-
bon monoxide alarms.
Years ago, members of the
Roans Prairie Community
Center were having a New
Year’s Eve party when
people started having se-
vere headaches and getting
upset stomachs. Many of
them had to be treated at
the hospital and several
were admitted for a few
days. They found out later

• Former Grimes
County resident Ron
Walkoviak and his wife
Sharleen spent Thanksgiv-
ing with his mom, Frances
Walkoviak, in Navasota.
While there, he was read-
ing about the problems
that the Sunshine (senior)
Center is having in The
Examiner, and e-mailed
me, voicing his concerns. I
sent him the contact infor-
mation for Evelyn Szym-
czak. I’m hoping that
enough people will help
and that the center will still
be able to help those that
need it.
• A few days before
Thanksgiving, in one of
those freaky household ac-
cidents, Jeannie Sechelski
cut a tendon in one of her
fingers. She had to have
surgery the next day to
have it reconnected. She
was lucky it was on her
left hand.
• Did you watch the lat-
est movie about Bonnie
and Clyde Sunday night?
This isn’t the first and I’m
sure it won’t be the last
movie about the notorious
pair.
