Andrew Michael Rodriguez, 20,
who was arrested early Saturday
morning and later charged with mur-
der for the alleged death of a 42-year-
old Crowley man, was arraigned
Monday by Crowley Municipal Court
Judge Darla Peavy and bail was set at
$750,000.
According to a Crowley police press
release, an alleged domestic dispute
between three individuals occurred
early Saturday morning.
Crowley Police Lt. Kit Long said of-
ficers responded to a 9-1-1 call of shots
fired at 3:46 a.m. in the 1300 block of
Meadowbrook Lane in Crowley.
Officers found a male subject with
a weapon in his hand and on a cell-
phone. Officers entered the garage
area where they observed a deceased
person lying on the garage floor with
an apparent gunshot wound to the
head, a Crowley PD press release in-
dicates.
Once officers entered the residence,
they a found a female with non-life
threatening injuries, the press release
indicates. She was taken to an area
hospital where she was treated for in-
juries consistent with an altercation,
Crowley Detective Kyle Williams said,
and she was later released.
A juvenile was also inside the resi-
dence, but was sleeping at the time of
the incident.
Rodriguez was transported to the
Crowley Justice Center and inter-
viewed by Crowley detectives and was
later arrested.
The deceased male was transported
to the Tarrant County Medical Ex-
aminer’s Office where the cause and
manner of death will be determined.
The name of deceased man is not
being released at this time.

CISD board
to re-think
scoreboards
BY JAY HINTON
crowleystar@thestargroup. com
The Crowley ISD school board unani-
mously agreed with Superintendent Dr. Dan
Powell to table the district’s proposal to re-
place 10 scoreboards at Crowley and North
Crowley until further research can be con-
ducted.
With the move, the district will delay
signing an $872,931 contract with Daktron-
ics to replace the scoreboards at baseball
fields, auxiliary fields, softball fields, bas-
ketball gymnasiums and football fields at
the two high schools. The scoreboards at the
football fields were bid out to include high-
resolution (not HD) video.
In its August meeting, the board voted 6-1
for the new scoreboards.
“There are a lot of needs with our facili-
ties across the district and the replacement
of scoreboards is one of them,” Powell said
Thursday night. “As we looked into the an-
cillary costs of doing video boards, it oc-

GOVERNMENT
Davis poised
to make big
announcement
BY BRIAN PORTER
crowleystar@thestargroup. com
State Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth,
who represents about 6,400 residents in
the Tarrant County portion of Burleson, has
announced plans for a gathering Thursday
where she is expected to announce a deci-
sion to seek her party’s nomination for Tex-
as governor.
Davis has begun announcing the decision
to Democratic party insiders, according to
the Associated Press and other media re-
ports. One Burleson Star source has held it
would be her decision since early this year.
Republican Gov. Rick Perry announced
in July he would not seek another term in
office. He is the longest-serving governor in
state history.
A Democrat has not held the highest elect-
ed Texas office since 1994, when George W.
Bush unseated sitting governor Ann

Board approves floor plan

Crowley ISD’s yet-to-be-
named school No. 15 now has a
look.
Two options for the new el-
ementary school, which will
house up to 670 students, were
presented to the board Thursday
night, and with a 5-1 vote, a floor
plan was selected.
The first floor plan is similar
to the ones David L. Walker In-
termediate and Mary Harris In-
termediate — the last two schools
constructed in the district, and the
second plan is similar to schools
recently constructed in Keller ISD.
The current prototype for
Option 1 is 82,658 square feet
with the estimated cost of
$14,404,487. The current proto-
type of Option 2 is 86,141 square
feet with the estimated cost of
$15,292,507 — a difference of
$888,020.
After a presentation by repre-
sentatives of VLK Architects and
a short discussion, board mem-
ber Sherri L. Whiting made the
motion for Option 2 and board
member Ryan Ray seconded it.
Board member Sybil Lane
expressed her concern with the
motion.
“The Texas Constitution says
we’re supposed to have efficient
use of taxpayers’ funds and I feel
like Option 1 would have been
adequate and cost our taxpayers
