Funeral services for Mrs.
Ada Jenkins, 79, were held
Monday at 2 p.m. at the Cun-
ningham Cemetery with Rev.
W. A. Rashall officiating, as-
sisted by Rev. Herbert Free.
She died at 12:21 a.m. Sun-
day in the Silsbee Doctors Hos-
pital.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Sam Jenkins; two sons,
Clifton Gore, and W. B. Jen-
kins both of Silsbee; seven
daughters, Mrs. Francis Hare,
Faye Brown, Aline Haynes,
Medeline Gray and Sarah Ea-
son, all of Silsbee, and My.
Janie Calloway and Mrs. Let-
tie Ard, both of Fred; three
sisters, Molly Gore of Fred, Ida
Gilmore and Ella Gore, both of
Silsbee; and a brother, Charlie
Watts of Silsbee.

During January
Sergeant Joe Reinhart of the
Texas Highway Patrol an-
nounced today that during the
month of January 1974, in Har-
din County, there were no
rural fatal accidents. In addi-
tion, The Texas Highway Pa-
trol investigated 18 rural motor
vehicle accidents >n which 19
persons were injured.
During the month of Janu-
ary in the 16 counties which
comprise District 2B, the Tex-
as Highway Patrol investigated
333 rural accidents which kill-
ed nine persons and injured
143.

bers and their guests in honor

Sweetheart who is to be an-
nounced during the program by
the Singers.
Nancy Schuler, Paula Tay-
lor and Cindy Edwards pre-
sented the program by giving a
reading about women accused
of being witches during the
Salem Witch Hunt. The girls
are members of the Silsbee
High School Speech class and
have won honors with their
presentation of the reading.
The next meeting will be
Monday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
with Mrs. Gloria Calvert pre-
senting the program “The Very
Great,” and Mrs. Sherridan
Tutt as hostess.

The bride was given in mar-
riage by her father. She chose
an ivory maracaine gown with
a soft V neckline that joined a
geometrically designed waist
adorned with irridescent crys-
tals and pearls. The draped
skirt flowed into a full chapel
length train. Her bouffant veil
of illusion fell from a headband
of irridescent crystals and
pearls. She carried a crescent
bouquet of phalaenopses or-
chids and babies breath.
Mrs. Madeline Sanders, or-
ganist, provided the traditional
nuptial music. Miss Kay Kent,
sister of the bride, was maid of
honor. Mrs. Walter L. Baker
was bridesmaid. They wore
gowns of burgandy velvet with
ivory lace trim and carried
nosegays of pink sweetheart
roses.
Jerry Boutte of Sulphur was
best man. Ron Dailey of Baton
Rouge was groomsman. Walter
L. Baker and Douglas Almond
were candlelighters and seated
the guests.
Serving in the houseparty for
the reception held in the home
of the bride’s parents were Miss
Ann Paret, Dallas; Miss Melin-
da Martindale and Miss Amy
Steele, Jasper; Miss Sandra
Smyly and Mrs. Robert Green-
wood, Woodville, and Miss Deb
bie Almond of this city.
The couple will make their
home in Baton Rouge where
both are students at Louisiana
State University.

Jaycee-Ettes To
Sponsor Barbecue
Sandwich Sale
The Silsbee Jaycee-Ettes met
at the home of Mrs. Ted Fried-
rich, president, on Feb. 5 for a
salad supper and scrapbook or-
ientation. The club plans to en-
ter their book at State cometi-
tion in Lake Jackson in April
and rules on how to compile it
were explained to the members
by Mrs. Friedrich.
The Board of Directors re-
commended that th<y group
sponsor a barbecua/'sandwich
sale. The sale will ee on Tues-
day, Feb 19. Co-Jhairmen of
this project are Mra Ron Scar-
borough and Mrs. Shaun Hills.
Also discussed was the Beau-
mont Jacee-ette Sit-In which
will be held this Saturday,
Feb. 16, at First Federal Sav-
ings and Loan. Lunch will be
served at this meeting. An
April Sit-In • will be held in
Silsbee and hosted by the local
chapter. The theme of this
meeting will be “Pasta and
Games” and will be held in the
Presbyterian Church annex.
Three new members were
welcomed into the organization.
Mrs. Doug Ingram; Mrs. Mike
Brammer; and Mrs. Ron Scar-
borough.
Nu Upsilon Plans
Feb. 14 Supper
Nu Upsilon met Monday,
Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Hardin
County Savings and Loan.
The meeting began with the
opening ritual and Mrs. Robert
Tatum called the roll with 12
memebrs answering present.
A Valentine dime-a-dip cov
ered supper was planned for
Thursday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p m.
at the Methodist Church. The
members will leave the supper
and attend the program by the
Cardinal Singers.
Mrs. Jobie Irvine was crown-
ed Valentine Sweetheart and
was presented a corsage and
sweetheart pin. Mrs. Tatum,
Mrs. Charles McCaleb and Mrs
Billy Barclay received pepper-
mint carnations for being Val-
entine princesses.
Mrs. Jessie Hawthorne gave
the program on “You and Your
Audience.” The members stood
and repeated the closing ritual.
Mrs. Roger Gaeckler and
Mrs. Jim Watson served re-
freshments. The next meeting
will be held Feb. 25.

Is To Be March 3
The Fifth 'Annual Orange
County 4-H Leaders Associ-
ation All-Trophy Open Horse
Show will be held on Sunday,
March 3, with halter classes
starting at 9 a.m., at Tin-Top
Indoor Arena, located on FM
1130, between Little Cypress
and Mauricevillc.
Trophies will be awarded for
first through 10th place, with
a high point saddle for each
group. There will be a conces-
sion stand on the grounds.

Donald Duke Enlists
In U. S. Navy
Donald R. Duke, 22, husband
of the former Cherly A. Beasly,
Rt. 3, Box 790, Lumberton, and
son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy M.
Duke, Rt. 2, Box 1352, Silsbee,
was sworn into the U.S. Navy
for three years during cere-
monies held in Houston Feb. 5.
A graduate of Lumberton
High School, Duke is now at
the Naval Training Center San
Diego, Calif., for nine weeks of
recruit training. Here he will
receive instruction in Military
courtesy, seamanship, naval
orientation and naval history.

a miscellaneous bridal shower
Saturday in the home of Mrs.
Sim Ward.
Calling hours were 7:30 until
9 p.m. Hostesses were Mrs. Tru-
man Ward, Mrs. Robert Davis,
Mrs. Shirley Strahan, Mrs. Rob-
ert Ward, Mrs. James Ward,
Mrs. Susie Kasper, Mrs. Ray
Baker and Mrs. Jimmy Reeves.
A blue and white color
scheme was used in decorating.
Mr. and Mrs. Courmier were
married Jan. 18 in the home
of the bride’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Gordon.

Visit Sour lake
Mrs. Thelma Joyce Alsup of
Houston, Worthy Grand Ma-
tron of the Grand Chapter of
Texas, Order of the Eastern
Star, will make an official visit
to Sour Lake Chapter No. 75 at
7:30 p.m., Feb. 18.
A salad supper at 6 p.m. in
the Hardin - Jefferson High
School cafeteria will precede
the meeting. A program is
planned to honor Mrs. Alsup,
an employee of the Harris
County Sheriff’s Department.
Mrs. Juanita Mauboules,
Worthy Matron, and Carney L.
Phelps, Worthy Patron will be
in charge of arrangements.
Willie Jackson. 70, of Silsbee
died Feb. 5 In a Galveston hos-
pital. A native of Louisiana, he
had lived in Silsbee most of his
life.
Funeral services were at 2
p.m. Sunday in Coleman Mor-
tuary with Rev. S. Bowie offi-
ciating. Burial was in Kirby
Cemetery. ,

Pinkie Jackson and one son,
Booker T. Sanders of Houston

for the body.

phy’s wife Joan, 29, two daugh-

IMPROVEMENT
The Texas Highway Department is
planning to proceed with the devel-
opment of the proposed highway im-
provements on U.S. Highway 69. 96
& 287, from North of the LNVA
Canal, North to North of Pine Island
Bayou.
The project will be developed In
cooperation with the Federal Highway
Administration; therefore FHWA's
approval has been requested.
The subject project is for the con-
struction of grading, structures nnd
surfacing which will result in the
improvement of the safety character-
istics of the highway. No additional
right of way will be required.
