Visa Pelition
For Oswald's
Wife Explained
1 San Antonio, June 29 (# -
John H. Holland, director of
the San Antonio district office
of the US Immigration Service,
has denied that his office issu-
ed an “exit document” for Lee
Harvey Oswald to leave Rus-
sia in early 1962.
Holland said that his office
did approve a visa petition 30
that Oswald’s wife, Marina,
would not be denied entrance
into the United States, even
though the Russian immigra-
tion quota was full. .
Holland said: “This is anou-
tine matter. Such a visa is of-
ten granted servicemen’^ wifes
who were born in foreign coun-
tries, All we needed to estab-
lish .was that Oswald was a
United States citisen and that
they were eligible to get mar-
ried.”
He said that he remembers
Oswald’s visa petition because
there was a question at the
time whether Oswald had dis-
solved his citizenship. But Hol-
land said that this was never
done legally, so Oswald was
still considered a citizen.
The statement about the
exit document was contained
in a copyrighted story in the
Dallas News which was reprint-
ed as an Associated Press story
in yesterday’s Express-Mews.
The story was based on Os-
wald’s diary while in Russia
from October 1989 to March
1962.
Holland also explained the
visa petition was handled by
the San Antonio district office
because Oswald lived in Fort
Worth, which is part of the
district.
