Dear Dr. Rushing:
The Association again solicits your nomination for its Mirabeau
B. Lamar Medal. With Chancellor William Tucker and President
Ray Hawkins, I am serving on the selection committee.
The medal has been awarded to John Gray (1977), Senator A. M.
Aiken (1978), Abner McCall (1980), in 1981 to Mr. Frank C.
Erwin, Jr., Mr. Jenkins Garrett, and Dr. Norman Hackerman, and
in 1982 to Mr. Harvey Weil and Dr. James Moudy.
The following are the few guidelines established for the award:
(1) The Mirabeau B. Lamar Medal is for distinguished
service to Texas higher education, above and beyond
service to a single institution.
(2) The honor may be conferred to a professional educator
or one who is not a professional educator.
(3) There may be more than one award, or none, during the year.
The medal is customarily bestowed at the Annual Meeting of the
Association.
I am asking you to send your nominations to me (see address below)
no later than November 1, 1982. If you wish to re-nominate a
previous nominee, you need only update the information, as we have
the previous files. Your nomination should include a description
of the nominees' contributions to Texas higher education.
Thank you for your participation.
Sincerely yours,
Haskell M. Monroe, Chairman
Mirabeau B. Lamar Medal Selection Committee
