SEEKING A SITE FOR A JEW-
ISH REPUBLIC
At present a committee ol vide
iy known Hebrews are scrutiniz-
ing the world for a site for the
New Jerusalemi Where will it
it be found What will be the
future of the new Jewish republic
Thousands of Hebrews in all
parts of the world await this
promised land In the oppress-
ed districts of Russia they look
forward eagerly to this refuge
where they may go and enjoy free-
dom hi all countries of the globe
great men of the race lire interest-
ed in the movement
Realizing the difficulty of se
curing Palestine as a site for the
promised land the members of
the Ito which broke from the reg-
ular Zionists several years ago
have decided to try to find a suit-
able location in some other part of
ho world
think the committee which
has been sent out will find a site
within a year declared the fa-
mous writer during his recet visit
Where it will be we cannot now
say We expect to find it how-
ever We wrill then try to secure
the land from the government
controlling it and throw it open
to the oppressed Hebrews of the
earth
There under a beneficent form
of selfgoverment we shall hope
to see them develope into a great
Jewish nation There we expect
to see them developed into a great
rise with the splendor of the long
dreamed New Jerusalem There
we shall expect to sec commerce
flourish and the nation grow
rich
There wo shall hope to find
learning advance science unfold
its splendid wings and art bud
forth Yes we hope to have de-
cided upon a site for the new re-
public within a year
Mr Zangwill visited a number
of Hebrews farming colonies in
the United States At many of
them he witnessed great success
and progress But he found what
he says is an insuperable difficulty
These colonics can grow to great
size but cannot bo developed into
communities the prophet of the
race dream of They usually ex-
tend toward towns and finally
merge into cities and lose that for
which they were established
Mr Zangwill firmly believes in
