All Right
Already!
Okay, Mother Na-
ture, we get the picture
sharp and clear! YOU
are in CONTROL!
You have made
your point that you
can switch back and
forth between spring
and winter at will, on
a whim or whenever
you choose!
This spring (uhhh,
spring?) has been defi-
nitely weird.
We’ve bounced
around from 90 de-
grees to 30 degrees like
a teenagers hormone
levels!
I’ve worked in the
yard and poured
sweat. I mowed Friday
morning dressed in a
ear covering cap,
gloves, and a heavy
coat. I was still chilled.
Speaking of
chilled...Working the
Paris Rodeo Thursday
night was miserable
for contestants, work-
ers and for those of us
retarded enough to
volunteer with Paris
EMS! 6 hours of
hunkering down in
long underwear in the
pouring rain, 40 de-
grees and high winds?
It was, quite literally 3
in the morning before
I thawed out enough
to sleep.
But back on March
21st, it was 91 de-
grees!
The bees were buzz-
ing, the birds were
twittering happily,
and humans foolishly
were expecting an
early spring. We were
already moaning
about the upcoming
hot, dry weather.
Oh, it will turn off
hot and dry really
soon, I’m quite sure. It
always does in East
Texas in the summer-
time.
But right now it is
COLD.
The poor birds have
nestlings and they are
really having to work
hard to keep the little
things warm and fed.
Adult birds are sitting
around fluffed up like
it was January.
Insects are sluggish,
and so are the snakes.
I suppose there are
some advantages to
cool springs?
Mama raccoon,
whose babies were in
our shop eves, either
doesn’t like being on
camera (we put the
game camera up) or
more likely grabbed
those babies and
moved them to a
warmer location. It
was rather windy
where they were.
I am one of those
people who prefers
warmer weather. I
don’t like having to
bundle up in MAY.
May, record cold
breaking May.
As I said, Mother
Nature has proved her
point. She is, as usual
in control.
Now, please, dear
lady, let’s have a nor-
mal spring!
Warm breezes,
gentle sun..you know,
NORMAL spring!

75fz!
Detroit Lions Club making plans
Can you believe that we
are in May already? Well,
we are and that means that
officially I will be one year
older this month. But that is
not what this writing is
about. This is about the
Detroit Lions Club.
Since it was the first
Monday of the month (6
May 2013) we gathered in
the fellowship hall of Martin
Mem.UMC at about 6:30 in
the evening. Interim
president Renate McCoin
called the meeting to order
and Lion Robert Morris
offered a prayer after which
all Lions present recited the
Pledge of Allegiance to the
US Flag as well as to the
Texas Flag. Lion Dana
Sharp led us ably in singing
‘America’. Then onto the
covered dish supper. And
man, did we have good food.
And desert.
During the business
meeting Lion Venita called
the roll and read the minutes
from the last meeting. Lion
Robert provided the
financial report which was
accepted as given. Lion
Robert also reported that a
substantial amount of
money had been received in
memory of Pete Ritchie and
Red Garrison. He also
reported that Nan’s Closet
had donated a total of
$3,450.00 since May 2008.
That warmed the cockles of
my heart since I am one of
the ladies working at Nan’s.
Some of our Lions have
been busy selling ads for the
Homecoming book and I
really want to thank them for
their timely effort. What
they reported was that it
really isn’t that hard to sell
the ads. Most people bleed
only a little bit when you
start squeezing them. So, let
that be the encouragement
we need to sell more.
Lion Venita stated that all
officers needed to be turned
in. And while I was still kind
of snickering about the
wording of the sentence I
lost all control of the
meeting because I think it
was my beloved spouse who
made a motion some other
loving lion seconded it and
I had been elected the new
president of the club. How
do you like them apples?
Never turn your head on
these people.
Lion Mark Keahey is the
new VP and Lion Dale
Miller is in charge of
membership. We conned
Lions Venita and Robert
into keeping their jobs as
secretary and finance
minister for one more year.
And Lion Betty Smith will
remain as Tail twister.
We also discussed putting
up a more respectable sign
bearing our logo somewhere
in Detroit. And inviting
other civic organizations to
add their name and logo to
it. Seems like Lion Kenny
Snodgrass came up with
a good design some time
ago but a previous leader let
the notion die. There really
should be some sort of
display that let’s people
know we have stuff going
on in Detroit. And that they
should get involved, too.
Lions Evelyn and Dale
are working on the letters
for the Homecoming. This
year we are honoring all
classes
graduating in -3 and -8.
The problem is finding
addresses. Do you have any
for the members of your
graduating class? What
about e-mail addresses.
Please, please let us have
them so we may invite all
old friends.
You kids who graduated
in 2008 do you realize that
this will be your first 5-year
anniversary and that you
who graduated in 2003 are
older than my grand-
daughter Liz. So come on
and participate so you can
come home and brag. Come
and tell the stories (to each
other of course) that your
parents did not hear about
but that now make the hair
stand up on your head
because you now have
children, too.
Then, there not being any
more old or new business
to discuss Lion Nancy
made the motion to
adjourn, Lion Dana
seconded it and we all went
home.
Those attending were
Lions Robert and Venita
Morris, Dale and Evelyn
Miller, Johnny Van and
Renate McCoin, Betty
Smith, Nancy Smith, Mark
Keahey, Dana Sharp and
Larry Dotin.
Our next meeting will be
on the third Monday ( 20
May 2013). Same place,
probably the same folks and
some of the same issues.
Come and put your two
cents in to make Detroit a
better place.
