What Part Don’t We
Understand?
What part of our sol-
emn vow, taken 7 years
ago after our last puppy
don’t we understand?
“NO more puppies”
we would say. No more
puppies”. And, of
course, now we have
another puppy.
Parker, we have de-
cided, is 1/2 Coon
Hound. Forget the Lab/
Chessie half. Well, he
is a good retriever.
His voice and ears
simply scream “hound,
hound, baying hound”.
Last night, we all
went to bed. Well, we
tried to.
Parker the puppy
wasn’t sleepy.
He stood on his
(long) hind legs and
stole a pen from the
computer desk. I took it
away from him.
He crawled into the
laundry basket.
“Good”, I thought”
he’ll go to sleep. No,
because he tumped it
over and poured him-
self out. THEN he dis-
covered the old leather
belt hanging on the
chair. I took that away
from him.
He went in to the liv-
ing room and shortly
returned with a piece of
paper to shred. I had to
run him out from under
the bed and get a cane
to get the pieces out.
Ahh, sweet peace.
“CLANK” I heard
the sound of something
metallic hitting the
floor. Parker had man-
aged to get the end of
the belt from where I ha
put it and was happily
shredding it.
I decided that his
little puppy teeth
needed something to
chew on so I sleepily
went to the kitchen and
gave each of the dogs a
rawhide chew. Bonnie
took a running strike at
Parker, snatched his
chew out of his mouth
and headed under the
bed with hers and his.
Parker than decided
to stand at the edge of
the bed issuing “Baroo,
baroo, baroo” barks
worthy of a much
larger, older dog.
I snapped. I jumped
up, chased them all into
the living room.
Slammed the bedroom
door and proceeded to
take all chews away
from everyone
I was tired, I was
sleepy, and I wanted
some silence!
I yelled at the dogs
and they finally got the
picture. “Mom” was
not happy and it was
better to behave!
They all retreated to
their respective spots.
Parker by Thomas’ side
of the bed. Bonnie by
mine. Ally under the
bed.
Ahhh, sweet silence.
Sweet peace.
All was well. Until
morning, when we dis-
covered that sometime
during the night Parker
had managed to snag a
placemat from the edge
of the table. It looks
quite interesting with
that half moon chewed
out of it.
No more Puppies.
NO more puppies!

JOHN NANCE GARNER MONUMENT- A move-
ment is underway to have a monument erected by
the state of Texas in 1936 moved to a more acces-
sible location. The monument was put up to recog-
nize the birth place of the 32nd Vice President of
the United States to a more accessible location.
Garner was born November 22nd 1868 in Red
River County near Detroit Texas. Before serving
as Vice President he was a state representative
from 1898 to 1902. He was a U.S. Representative
from 1903 to 1933. He was the 44th speaker of the
House and elected as the Vice President of the
United States in 1933. He served until 1941 under
President Franklin D Roosevelt. The monument is
located in a pasture off County Road 1230. Orga-
nizers are attempting to have the monument moved
to the intersection of Farm Road 410 and County
Road 1230 with a historical marker erected. The
monument is isolated and has been vandalised.
Historians have difficulty finding it, and the county
road is not the best.
See they get back to
school safely!
School is starting.
