Powderlvs paper the Journal < United
Lbor lo be issued on Saturdayg speak-
ing of the government and sumptuary
law will say Amone the greatest ob-
jections to legislative regulation of the
liquor traffic is that of the revival of
the old sumptuary laws This means that
the government has no right to say what
ve shall eat or drink What then is to
be done with our laws regulating poison-
ous articles Men may sell a will milk
and infect your household with typhoid
Butchers may sell diseased meat inocu-
lated with trichinosis butter dealers
may palm off on you old tallow
manipulated with chemicals for giltedge
butter for 50 cents per pound There is
the right of self protection left with
every state and community as well as in-
dividuals and how much better that this
right should be exercised in the preven-
tion of evil rather than in its redress
As to the reception of the colored dele-
gates at the Minneapolis convention the
paper says Why a labor organizailon
ysnould receive more criticism than that
August body the Congress of the United
States we are at a loss to conceive
These colored members possess every
