OOPS!
On the front page of our
August 15th issue, we
printed a picture of an ador-
able little girl with a bucket
of “suds” at the ROTC car
wash.
Whether it was passing
traffic or just bad hearing,
we mistakenly listed this
little angel as “Colonel
McIntyre’s daughter.” In
acuality, she’s Krystle
Wilder’s daughter, Angela.
(How I got Colonel from
Krystle, I’m not sure.)
We apologize for any
oonfusion or inconve-
nience.

In the spirit of the start of football season, we decided to share this photo of Tarkington’s Homecoming on November 13, 1953. Moon’s notes tell us that these
happy faces belong to Belton Enloe (#21), Janice Hair (Enloe), Johnny Bush (#25) and Nell Lankford.

Day by Day by Betty Bazar
The exterminator was coming and I had to get my two big dogs out of
the yard for a few hours. I was going to move them to a small pen we ha\ e
i JRiP Bevo and Hallie each weigh about 85 plus pounds. No small puppies. It
|| «*»*»' W IIS was noon and very hot. Also, I had Kaelan with me so I knew I was in for
v jJ^**®* jjjlj First, I got Bevo out. He wanted to head every direction but the direction
* wanted to go. I pushed, pulled and tugged him into the small yard and
fastened the gate. I don’t know which was harder, getting the dog in or
Wm JHHH keeping Kaelan out. Next, I went in to get Hallie who did not want to come
out at all. She was quite happy where she was, thank you. I nudged, urged, cajoled and finally pulled
her out of the yard and then pushed her rear end into the little pen while making sure she didn't turn
and run on me and fighting Bevo off the gate. Finally, they were in and Kaelan and I got them some
food and water and went back into the house.
I got Kaelan settled in with a video; but somehow, I couldn’t get comfortable with those dogs. I
didn’t like the way the gate had to be fastened. It was a wire that I had twisted and twisted and
twisted but I still worried. I decided I had better check on them. To my horror, the gate was wide
open and they were nowhere to be seen.
I ran back in and snatched Kaelan up from his video and told him we had to go find the dogs. He
jumped into the back seat of the Tahoe and we took off. We didn’t have far to go. There they were,
frolicking in my neighbor’s yard. I darted over to the curb, rolled the windows down and told Kaelan
to sit still; I would be right back.
I he first dog I caught was Bevo. I got him by the collar and opened up the cargo area of the Tahoe.
He didn’t really want to go in. His front paws went up but his back end stayed on the ground.
Meanwhile, Hallie was still running like a wild dog so I reached down and hoisted Bevo's rear end
into the cargo area and slammed the door shut. Kaelan was laughing. He though1, this v as a lot of
fun.
Next, I caught Hallie and tried to put her in the cargo area, but Bevo got out. So. I took Hallie
around to the back seat and shoved her in; apparently, neither one of these dogs can jump. Kaelan
was in the front seat, now squealing with laughter. Bevo came whizzing by me again; I snagged his
collar and pulled him over to the Tahoe. I opened the back seat door and began to shove him in.
Hallie wouldn’t move from by the door; she was terrified so I had to shove him m and then over
Hallie. Finally, both dogs in, I slammed the door. I still had to put them somewhere. 1 asked my dad
il they could spend a couple of hours in his yard; I then hauled both of those dogs out of the car again
and put them in his yard. I gave them water and checked the gates, then Kaelan and I went in and sat
down under the fan. All of this fun had taken place between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. It was hot.
When Joe came home, Kaelan was pumped. He told his papa all about the adventure and told him
that Mama had even said “Shoot!” Thank God for restraint in times of trial!
