Wool Ballots Being
Received By County ASCS
Ballots voted by producers in
the mail referendum on wool
and lamb promotion are now
arriving in the county ASCS
Office, according to Glenn L
Drachenberg, County
executive director of the San
Patricio-Aransas County ASCS
Office. “Friday. June 18th. is
the last day for voting. Ballots
not received in the County
ASCS office by close of
business on that date cannot be
counted,” he said.
Producers eligible to vote in
the referendum are all those
who have owned sheep, 6
months of age or oldder, for 30
consecutive days during 1970.
An agreement between the
Secretary oi Agriculture and
the American Sheep Producers
Council (ASPC) provides for
(1) the U. S. Department of
Agriculture and the ASPC to
set deduction rates not to ex-
ceed 1.5 cents per pound from
payments to producers on wool
marketed in 1971,1972, and 1973
and 7.5 cents a cwt on unshorn
lamb payments: <2> the ASPC
to use the deductions to con-
tinue to finance advertising
and sales promotion programs
to encourage the-'use of wool
and lamb products. The new
agreement would be similar to
4 previous agreements ap-
proved by wool producers since
1954.
To become effective, the
agreement must be approve/,
nationally by two-thirds of the
number of growers voting, or
by growers producing two-
thirds of the total wool
production represented in the
referendum.
If the agreement is not ap-
proved, no deductions will be
withheld from producer
payments on 1971 marketings,

Check Tires
For Safety
In Summertime
“Summertime, and the
living is easy” — This
popular refrain will be sung,
hummed, and whistled
throughout the months ahead
by those motorists who have
taken the time to prepare their
car’s tires for the long vacation
trips ahead.
To make your summer trips
more pleasant, the Tire In-
dustry Safety Council offers
these tips:
Always keep your tires
properly inflated. This is one of
the most important rules in tire
safety. Check your car owner’s
manual and make sure you
have the recommended air
pressure for the load being
carried.
Always have the wheel
balance and alignment
checked before any extended
trip.
Always check air pressure
with a personal hand gauge as
service station air towers are
often inaccurate.
The C. W. Campbells are in
Arkansas where his father is
seriously ill.
ASPC programs would con-
tinue 8$ long as reserve funds
permit, or until wool producers
approved some other
agreement.
