The National Board of Fire;
Underwriters reports that the;
fire loss during July was $34,-!
847,750—$2,862,258 more than ,
in July, 1929. The total loss for |
the first seven months of this
year has been $277,187,521, asj
compared with $262,078,288 dtir-'
ing the same period last year, an j
increase of more than $15,000,-
000.
The discouraging fact is that ■
we are once more on our way
toward a half-billion dollar an-
nual waste. For the past few
years there has been a small but
steady decrease in annual losi
and it was hoped that, the Ameri-
can people were at least be-
coming “fire conscious;”, Ap-
parently the hope was unfound-
ed. Carelessness and ignorance
continue to destroy, through the
medium of fire, thousands of j
irreplaceable lives and a gigantic j
amount of property each year, j
The week of Octoboer 5-11 has!
been set aside as “Fire Preven-
tion Week.” Once more private
and public organizations will en-
deavor to instill in the public a
knowledge of fire hazards, of the
need for better building construc-
tion and the like. Once more we
will have the opportunity to
learn, under expert guidance,
lessons that are of direct finan-
cial benefit to all of us. j
The issue is up to the public. |
Our gigantic fire loss is a menace,
to prosperity, to home building,
to industrial progress. It is
a national disgrace that can be
remedied only by unceasing vigi-
lance in our homes and plaees of
business.

Something new in the program
for reducing weevil damage in
the pecan grove is the providing
of nest boxes for birds, the
United States Department of Ag-
riculture says.
W. L. McAtee, of the Bureau I ~
of Biological Survey, points out m| . rnrrn
that it is possible to inductj weev- (((JNJuLA HlCtH
n-eatmg birds to inhabit the pe-
can grove. The only “sales talk”
necessary to interest the tufted
titmouse, the crested fly-catcher,
the purple martin, and the blue-
bird in moving to the new com-
munity is to provide them at.-’
tractive homes, rent free. Com-
munity bird baths and drinking
fountains may be added to in-
duce the birds to take up perma-
nent quarters in the grove. Sup-
pression of the natural enemies
would also make t he grove a more
acceptable place in which to live.
The Biological Survey offers free
details about nest construction
and protection for these birds to
anyone requesting them.’

HOLD EVERYTHING
It is with pleasure that we an-
nounce the coming to McGregor
of one of the biggest comedies-
ever screened, a picture that you
will talk about for days and
weeks afterwards — we mean
“Hold Everything,” which will
be shown at the Opera, House
here on September 25th and 26th..
Four of the outstanding stars of
the film world will take part in
this production of all natural col-
or. They are Winnie. Lightnerr
Joe E. Brown, Sally O'Neil apd
Dorothy Revler:1 There will be
plenty of singing, dariding, and
good music throughout the show.
It is a supp cure for the blues.
We are sure- you will enjoy this-
picture, and it will be shown at
regular prices. We have had
several good comedies, but noth-
ing like this one.
Make your arrangements to
see “Hold Everything” at the
Opera House Thursday night..
September 25th, and Friday, Sep-
tember 26th, at our regular ad-
mission prices. If you want a
of
these two nights and we guaran-
tee you will not be disappointed-
“1 suffered from rheumatism
for four or five years,” said Mr.
N. R. Daniel, 808 East Arlington
avenue, Ft. Worth. “This set-
tled in my left leg and hips and good laugh be on hand one
I became so sore and stiff that l
walked with a limp. I could not
stoop sufficiently to lace my
shoes. Later X became afflicted
with stomach pains caused by
gas. My kidneys became af-
fected and I suffered constant
back pains.
“I watched local endorsements
of Konjola and decided to give it
a trial. I noticed a change while
I was taking the first bottle, so
I continued the treatment. Today
the pains of rheumatism have en-
tirely passed. I move my limbs
freely and without effort. The
stomach and kidney ailment have
gone the way of ray rheumatism
and I no longer suffer from con-
stipation. Even head catarrh,
which bothered me for years, has
been relieved by this new medi-
cine.”
The files of Konjola contain
many such instances. Konjola
is free from alcohol, nerve-dead-,
enpig 1 <-}rugs orGheart-depressing
