Fourth through sixth grade
Gilmer ISD students competed
in Innovative Inventions at Re-
gion 7 in Kilgore on April 29.
The purpose of the student
seminar is to allow students an
avenue for creative, productive
thinking and to synthesize
their thinking into a tangible
idea or product.
This experience provides
students the opportunity
to participate in authentic
problem solving and prepares
them to be the innovators of
tomorrow.
Student work is judged ac-
cordingto the potential benefit
to society, innovative design,
prototype performance, effec-
tive display, and evidence of
research.
A peer choice and overall
winner are also awarded.
Students receiving awards
in Division 1 (4-5 grades) in-
clude, Brennen Wilson and
Jake Pilcher with Turtle Trap,
1st place in both prototype
performance and peer choice;
Jon Coleman and Caleb Dodd
withLight-A-Ladder, 1st place
in potential benefit to society;
Allie Traylor and Sarah War-
den with Sleep on the Seat, 3rd
place in both potential benefit
to society and effective display;
Parker Gilow and Jordan Ken-
nedy with Blind Wallet, 3rd
place in both innovative design
and peer choice; Mady son Tate
and Kaytlin Poe with Sport
Court, 1st place in innovative
design. Coleman, Dodd, Tray-
lor, and Warden also received
honorable mention awards for
the overall winner.

Gilmer Bass Club names winners
The Gilmer Bass Club has
held several tournaments
in 2015.
On Lone Star Lake, Donny
Chamberlain came in first
with five fish that weighed
15 lbs., 8 ounces. Wayne
Buchanan finished second
with three fish weighing 8
pounds., 8 ounces.
On Lake Holbrook, Wayne
Buchanan took first place
with two fish that weighed 7
pounds, 3 ounces.
Comingin second was Wes
King with two fish weighing
4 pounds., 15 ounces.
Donny Chamberlain fin-
ished in third with one fish
at 2 pounds., 6 ounces.
Finishing fourth was John
King with one fish tipping the
scales at 1 pound, 7 ounces.
The next tournament was
held at Lake Winnsboro. Wes
King took first place with a
limit that weighed 13 pounds,
10 ounces.
Coming in second was
John King with five fish
that tipped the scales at 13
pounds.
Third place went to Wayne
Buchanan with three fish
weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounc-
es.
The first tournament of
May was held on Lake Glade-
water. Takingfirst place with
four fish weighing 9 pounds
was Wes King.
Second place went to
Shawn Rhodes with four
fish weighing 6 pounds, 6
ounces.
Wayne Buchanan fin-
ished third with three fish
weighing6 pounds, 4 ounces.
Coming in fourth was Donny
Chamberlain with two fish at
2 pounds. John King came in
sixth with a fish at 1 pound,
10 ounces.
The club’s next tourna-
ment will be held on Cypress
Springs, at Oleo Landing
(Mary King Park) May 23.
