treatment. This
harmless and painless procedure
is performed by injecting into
the upper layers of the skin a
minute drop of the diphtheria
toxin. Your doctor can tell from
this whether or not your child is
immune.
“However, when a case of
diphtheria exists, antitoxin is the
only treatment that will save life.
Also, to be effective, it must be
given early and in large doses.
Delay is usually caused by par-
ents failing to realize that any
sore throat may actually be diiph-
theria.
“This means are at hand to
fight diphtheria to the death, but
it cannot be done without a hun-
dred percent cooperation of par-
ents. May Day, the Child’s
Health Day, will soon be here and
one of the best ways to observe it
would be for parents to have their
children immunized against diph-
theria.”

Louisa s Letter
In this week’s mail bag I re-
ceived a letter asking for an an-
swer right away but the writer
failed t'o enclose a stamped self-
(addressed envelope. I am glacl
o answer a personal reply bv let-
er but to do this the writer must
emember to send the stamped
nvelope.
One girl feels hurt because the
oy she is going with refuses to
ive her another girl’s picture,
hich he has. I can fully under-
tancl why she objects to him hav-
g the picture but I certainly do
ot blame him for not giving one
irl’s picture to the girl he is en-
gaged to. If he returns the pic-
ture to its owner, I think that will
be the most honorable thing to do.
Another girl is distressed be-
cause she is ready to get married
but the young man t'o whom she
is engaged, says that he doesn’t
make enough to support two peo-
ple and wants to wait awhile.
If he doesn’t make a sufficient
salary to support the two uf you,
it certainly would be foolish to
get married. Living on love is
not what it is cracked up to be
and poverty is a great disillu-
sioned If you wish .t'o get mar-
ried because you are uncertain of
the young man’s affections and
do not fully trust him, that is
still more foolish because if you
cannot trust an engaged man,
what guarantee have you that he
will be true and faithful after he
is married?
No matter how much I loved a
person I would rather break up
with him before we were married
than to find out afterwards that
he had ceased to care about me.
So if I were you, I would try
to have a little faith in my young
man' and if I found out later on
that he was just stalling along
about marriage, I would break
things off and try to become in-
terested in other people.

Another letter from “Worried”
in Virginia says that the boy she
is in love with just stopped com-
ing to see her about a year ago
but still seems friendly. Some-
one has told her that he said he
loved her nrore than any girl he
had ever gone with. She wants
to know how she can win him
back.
Well, a boy will usually keep on
hanging around unless he has
ceased to be interested or has
had his feelings hurt.
However, since he told his
ter what he did, it is barely pos-
sible, that he felt that he was be-
coming too interested in you and
was heading for matrimony and
perhaps he doesn’t feel that he is
able to support a wife or is too
selfish to share what he has with
a wife.
The next time you ,see him you
might ask him in a friendly way
why he neVer comes uver to your
house any more. Say it in a cas-
| ual manner, as if it were not a
matter of great importance, but
let him know that you miss him
and would still like to be friends.
