Wool and Mohair Growers as-
sociation of the Texas Farm
Bureau Federation, had an in-
teresting meeting at. the city
hall Monday. The meeting was
annual in nature and was at-
tended by twenty-one directors,
every, district in the state be-
ing represented, there being
three such districts each with
one director and three directors
at large. J. E. Boog-Scott,
president of the T.xas Wool
and Mohair Association, presid-
ed, and E. G. Black, Farm Bu-
reau Warehouse manager at
Houston, acted as secretary.
The purpose of the meeting,
primarily, was to take in re-
trospect the past year’s work
of the association, to ascertain
its weak points, if there wore
.• ay and to suggest such reme-
dies by way of improvement as
might meet the approval of the
board.
From the general trend of
the different addresses, most of
which were brief, the work of
the past year, or since the farm
bureau marketing feature for
wool and mohair was adopted,
end put into effeqfc by the open-
ing of a central warehouse at
Houston, the work has been
quite satisfactory. In fact it
was stated in a general way
that created some laughable in-
terest that it was found in a
general casting up of accounts
that the vast quanity of wool
and mohair shipped, to the
Houston warehouse, had actual-
ly gained 8,000 pounds.
President J. E. Boog-Scott
stated that the organization
started out with 170 members
and it now has 000 members,
I his he took to be an indication
lhat the work of the market-
ing plan of the Farm Bureau
was meeting with success and
the approbation of the wool
and mohair growers, else the
reverse would be true. It is
the object of the association
to encourage all the wool and
mohair growers in Texas to
lose no time in joining the mem-
bership roster, for it was stated
the time worn and time honor-
ed axiom of “In union there
is strength” holds good when
applied to things of a political
or economical nature. The
work of the association will in-
clude a broad program for the
coming year and one of its
main features will be to in-
crease the membership so as
to include all the wool and mo-
hair raisers of Texas.
The problem of grading from
many angles was discussed and
ii was evident from the various
brief talks that this problem
has been and is now, one of the
most serious that confronts the
association and especially the
problem of grading mohair. It
was stated that while ample
preparations had been made to
see t hat wool was projierly
classified and graded, little if
anything worth the name had
been done to properly grade
mohair. As a result the mo-
hair industry had suffered to
some extent. In this connec-
tion the manager. Mr. Black.
