Bogata Garden Club Prepares Show
The Bogata Garden Club
met Wednesday April 17 at
the Garden Center Mrs O.E.
Barnard led the Club Collect.
Mrs. Dick Scott presided at
the business session. Plans
were made for the Pilgrimage
to Big Sandy on Landscaping
and a tour of the Ambassador
College on May I.
Mrs. Joe Choate, yearbook
chairman, asked for sugges
tions for the 1974-75 yearbook
for program materials. Mrs.
E. L. Holder reminded the
members of the workshop
meeting to be held in Naples
June 4.
Numerous plant specimens
for the annual flower show
were displayed by members.
Mrs. O.E. Barnard, chairman
of the flower show, showed
slides and pictures of prize
winning arrangements »f
previous flower shows.
Mrs. Scott and Mrs
Barnard served punch and
cookies to seventeen mem
bers and these visitors,

Pinkham, R.F Hale and
Mary H. Hausler.

has joined hands with the
American Association of
Retired Persons and the
Home Demonstration Council
in co-sponsoring a Bazaar for
Senior Citizens. The Bazaar is
scheduled for November 9 in
the Clarksville Chamber of
Commerce. All persons over
60 years of age are urged to
begin making items to sell. A
$1.00 entry fee will be charged
to reserve a booth and all
other proceeds will go to the
Senior Citizen selling the
articles

accepted as a member of the
Clarksville Business it Pro-
fessional Women's Club at
their meeting Monday night.
Mrs. Skaggs is owner and
operator of Magic Fashion
Beauty Shop.
The Free Hope Baptist
Church celebrated the Cruci-
fixion of Christ with an Easter
Queen and King crowning and
a program, followed by an
egg hunt A prize was given to
each contestant and Rev
Goodlow presented the
crowns to Queen Valery
Lewis, daughter of Mr and
Mrs. Joe Lewis of Bogata and
King Jerry L. Simpson. Jr.,
son of Mr and Mrs Jerry
Simpson, Sr., of Fulbright.
$73.54 was raised in the
contest.
Governor Dolph Briscoe
today awarded three grants
for a total of $160,243 for
improving law enforcement
and justice in the area served
by the Ark-Tex Council of
Governments. Two of the
projects are regional in scope,
and the third is for the
Texarkana Police Depart-
ment.
The money comes from the
Criminal Justice Division of
the Governor’s Office. CJD
administers the state's block
grant from the Law Enforce-
ment Assistance Administra-
tion under the Crime Control
Act of 1973
Grantee of both regional
awards is the city of
Texarkana The larger. $79.-
479. continues the Northeast
Texas Adult Probation Pro-
ject, which serves the
counties of Bowie. Cass.
Morris. Titus and Red River
During 1973. the 16-member
staff treated 809 adult
probationers. 87 percent of
whom completed successful
terms.
A $59,434 award continues
and expands the regional
Juvenile Detention Center
The facility has eliminated
use of county and city jails in
Bowie. Cass. Morris, Titus
and Red River counties for
detention of delinouent child-
ren With 1974 funding.
Marion. Lamar. Ilopkms and
Hunt counties will be included
in the project
The Texarkana Police De-
partment receives $21,330 to
initiate a planning and
research unit, based on
recommendations by the
International Association of
Chiefs of Police in 1972.
Project objective is to solve
problems in manpower, plan-
ning. inspections and sala-
ries. The police manpower
turnover rate is expected 'o
be decreased by three percent
during the first year of
funding.
The local awards were
among 53, for a total of $3.8
million, which Governor
Briscoe approved today.
