Meeting of Council Together With
Citizens Bring About Oecisinn in
Its Favor.

That the pavement of the Pub-
lic Square and Main Street is to
be of asphalt was decided at a
meeting of town citizens and of-
ficers last Monday night.
This decision is the result of
careful investigation concerning,
the relative merits of brick, oiled
blocks and other paving prepara-
tions. The din and rattle of bug-
gies and wagons on -brick pave-
ment are very annoying, whereas
the noise on the rock asphalt is
reduced to a minimum. Besides
this, the brick pavement allows
more or less filth and dirt to be-
come lodged between the sepa-
rate bricks so that it is not near-
ly so healthy as the asphalt
which can be kept almost per-
fectly clean.
In addition to these reasons
the cost of putting down the as-
phalt will be several ‘thousand
dollars less than any other good
paving which is an itauTnot to
be passed by unnoticed.
The committee including May-
or Ragsdale, L K. Crawford,
W. M. Newton, H. W. Bigger-
staff, Harry Roberts and city en-
gineer Preston Thurmond made

will result in the establishment
