FIRST PLACE WINNERS-The Talco-Bogata Lady Rebel "A"
team snagged the 1st place trophy recently at the Chisu m basketball
tournament held December 1-2-3. Pictured left to right bvack row

The Ri vercrest Rebels participated
in the Prairiland Tournament this past
week end and brought home another
I st place trophy. This was the second
year in arow for the Rebels to win the
Prairiland Tourney. The Rebels are
6-0 in tournament play this season.
Game # 1 Rlvercrest 66-Pitts-
burg -64. The Rebels trailed most of
this game, but pulled the victory out
in the closing seconds of play. The
Rebels led after the first quarter 24-
23. The Rebels went cold the second
quarter and trailed at the half 40-37.
Pittsburg led by as much as 10 points
during the third quarter, but the Rebels
held to within 7 points starting the
last quarter. The Rebels hung close
and kept the pressure on Pittsburg.
Pittsburg had been fouling through-
out the game, hoping Rivercrest
would miss their free throws. Their
game began to fold as Pittsburg lost 3
player to fouls the last quarter. River-
crest outscored Pittsburg 16-9 the
last quarter to win. The Rebels shot
32 free shot during the game and
made only 31. The Rebs poor free
throw shooting throughout the game
let Pittsburg control the game. How-
ever, the Rebels made 7 free throws
in a row during the last quarter to go
ahead for good.Things really got ex-
citing the last 30 seconds as the Rebels
Leading by 2 after a three pointer by
Alvin Savage stole the in bounds
pass. Erric Waller made a lay up with
20 seconds left to give the Rebels a 4
point lead, and d free throw opportu-
nity. However, unbelievably, Waller
had been called for charging, there-
fore Pittsburg got the ball out of
bounds. The Rebels pressed Pittsbutg
and forced them into a bad shot and
the ball was theRebels' out of bounds
with 4 seconds left. The Rebels then
had a turnover and it was Piltsburgs'
ball again. Pittsburg was unable to
scoreas Kyle Kennedy got the final
rebound of the game to ice the win for
the Rebs.
Game # 2- Rlvercrest 74-North
Lamar 59. During the second game
of the Prairiland tournament the
Rebels Jumped out to a 24-20 first
quarter lead and were never chal-
lenged by the North Lamar JV team.
The win by Rivercrest put them in the
finals Saturday night against the host
Prairiland Patriots, who handily had
defeated North Lamar and Pittsburg.
Game # 3-Rivercrest 70- Prairi-
land 47. What was expected to be a
very close contest turned out to just
be another 20 point win for the Re-
belsover district 18AA foe Prairi-
land. The Rebels got going early with
a 20-12 first quarter lead as Jeff Sav-
age led the charge with 10 first quar-
ter points. The Rebels led at the half
37-23. The Patriots made several mini
runs at the Rebels, but some Rebel
would step up and hit a big shot or
make a key steal, or get a big re-
bound. The victory was a complete
team victory for the Rebels. The win
raised their season record to 9-2.
Coach Wake Wood had this to say
about the game and the season thus
far.'Tm very proud of our young
Rebel team and what they have ac-
complished so far. We are having a
great team effort with very unselfish
play by our guards. Jeff Savage has
just been a complete player for us.
Jeff is scoring, rebounding, and lead-
ing our fast break. Kyle Kennedy
after missing last year with back sur-
gery is beginning to assert himself as
a strong rebounder. Kyle really battles
the boards and is a fierce competitor.
Eric Waller's quickness at post has
really made it tough for our oppo-
nents to match up with us. Jack Brown
had a great finals game against
Prairiland. Jack really gave us the lift
we needed. He had 23 points and
three big offensive rebounds This
was by far Jack'e best game as a
starter for the Rebels. Andy Speir
had a great free throw shooting game
against Pittsburg as he was 9 of 10
from the free throw line. This really
made a difference the last quarter.
Our first two substitutes, Alvin Sav-
age and A.J. Lee have been doing a
great job and each of these young
men are multiple offensive players
and this really helps. A,.J. and Alvin
really fit in good. Both of these play-
ers are as good as our starters. They
may start from time to time. I love
having players like A.J. and Alvinas
come off the bench. Chris WalleiEv
with his defensive quickness is help-
ing us. Steven Thomas continues to
add spirit to our practices and is a
very positive young man. Steven adds
depth to our team at the forward po-
sition. Steven can play post when
called on, also and this helps. Danny
I^ince is currently improving daily. I
just wish Danny had been in our
program thq last few years. This is
Danny's first year for basketball. He
has really helped us in certain situ-
ations. Danny has come off the bench
and rested Kyle and Eric Waller. I
expect Danny to keep improving and
contribute in district greatly in our
district game in January and Febru-
