Special Topics: Suggesting A Location (Place Markers or Place Boxes)
Do you know you can provide geographical information about where an item originated or about its contents?
Start by selecting an item from your search results by clicking either its title or image. When the descriptive item record opens, click “Where” located at the bottom of the “About This Item” section.
From here, locate the interactive map under “Mapped Locations."
In the lower-left corner of the map, select either the pin (for Place Markers) or the box (for Place Boxes). You can zoom and pan the map as needed.
Once you have determined the location, click on the map to place the marker. You can drag the marker to the approximate spot a photographer would stand to take the image (usually not on top of the subject of the item). Once satisfied, submit the coordinates by clicking “Share these Coordinates.”
You will be directed to a “Contact Us” page. Here, enter a valid email and an additional comment if needed. Click “Submit.”
After submission, a thank you page will appear. You can copy your feedback for personal records or go back to exploring The Portal to Texas History.
