Oral History Interview with Robert Vollmer, August 4, 2014

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Robert Vollmer. Vollmer was drafted into the Army in March, 1943. As his unit, the 66th Infantry Division, was arriving in France, his ship was torpedoed and hundreds of men from his division drowned. Vollmer stayed with the 66th throughout the France campaign and was still on hand for occupation duty around Koblenz before he went to Austria for occupation duty. He returned home and was discharged in April, 1946.

Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Gerald Benishek. Benishek was drafted into the Army Air Forces in June 1942 and trained at Jefferson Barracks. From there, he went to mechanics school in Nebraska. Once overseas, he went to New Guinea and then to Biak where he worked on C-47 and C-54 engines. Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Virgil Haley. Haley joined the Navy in June 1944 and trained at San Diego. After training as a quartermaster and signalman, Haley joined the USS Williams (DE-372). His job aboard ship was to steer and work in the chart room. Dennard was drafted into the Navy in September, 1944 and trained at San Diego before reporting aboard the USS Franklin (CV-13).
