Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with Richard Boren. Boren joined the Marine Corps in 1943 under the V-12 program in Monticello, Arkansas. Upon graduating, he was sent to basic training at Parris Island. He received advanced weapons training at Camp Lejeune in preparation for the invasion of Japan. He received gunnery training at an armed guard school and upon completion was assigned to a Merchant Marine ship, the SS Canfield, carrying supplies to Halifax.
