[Portrait of a Private]

Description: This photograph is a portrait of a young man (visible from the waist up) wearing the uniform of a private in World War I. The jacket of his uniform has pins on the collar and the buttons have an imprint on them. The uniform also includes a hat that has cords knotted around the brim. The photograph is mounted in a dark-colored frame which has a name handwritten on the back "Graves Bogel."

Description: Studio family portrait of Silvester Chavira with his wife Felisita, his son Salvador, and his daughters Elvida, Tanita, and Enedina in 1914. The daughters have large bows in their hair. This photo was included in a research paper by Lupita Traveo for an American History class at Marfa High School in 1967.

Van Adams at the Gas Pump, 1914

Description: Photograph of Van Adams at the gas pump in 1914, Marfa, Texas. Description on the back reads, "This is type of service stations. Normally gas was pumped into a 5 gal can & then strained thru chamois skin to keep out dirt. Probably no one remembers Van Adams. His father was a River officer." This photo was included in a research paper by David Newton for an American History class at Marfa High School in 1971.
