Upon completing training, Puryear shipped out to Guadalcanal and joined Fleet Aerial Photo Squadron One. Description: The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an oral interview with David Greathouse. During the war, Greathouse spent summers in the scouts and junior ROTC program. After making regimental commander at age 15, he became an unofficial member of the Texas State Guard, even providing marksmanship instruction.
