SOF COMING:
Some three-thousand city officials from towns
throughout the state convene in Dallas today for
the 56th annual Conference of the Texas Municipal
League. The meeting runs trhough Tuesday.
MAYOR WAGGONER
The heart of the session is the legislative pr-posals,
chaired by Grand Prairie Mayor C. P. Waggoner. His
has studied
committee some 27 pieces of proposed legislation
affecting Texas cities, and they present their
reccommendations to the meeting. The T-M-L is asked
to support legislation calling for the abolition of
ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles; appointing one
..Tax Assessor-Collector per county for all taxingunits; moving municipal ad valorem tax limits on
bonded indebtedness, 4 It is reccommedded the TIM-L
take no position on liquor by the 'drinr, or legalizing
horse-racing. It is asked to oppose advance refunding
of municipal bonds; taxation of banks; increasing
exemptions on ad valorem taxes, and several others.v
