Texas Institute for Educators on
the Visual Arts in Denton.
The works of two Pilot Point
Elementary School students,
Amanda Church and Manuel
Becerra, is among those on
display in the University of North
Texas Art Building Lightwell.
The exhibit illustrates the com-
bined efforts of the NTIEVA
consortium to expand education
in the'visual arts in the elemen-
tary schools of North Texas.
Teachers attend
anti-drug meeting
Elementary teachers Pam
Lewis and Pam 'Pedigo and
counselor Nora Hudspeth attend-
ed a Project Positive meeting in
Lake Dallas.
The speaker, Van Hauser,
stressed the importance of help-
ing children attain their goals and
happiness.
Second-grade class
completes at-home program
The second graders at Pilot
Point Elementary School have
completed a three-week at-home
reading program.
The program encouraged
students and parents to par-
ticipate in reading activities, in-
cluding the Book It Contest and
600 Minutes of Reading Contest.
Students received points for ob-
taining a library card at a public
library; going a whole night
without watching TV; reading
recipes; telling a story; and il-
lustrating a story.
The Friday before spring break
was awards day for the second
graders. They wore western attire
and participated in stick horse
races, barrel races and roping.
The four second-grade teachers
participated in a chili cookoff,
and the students tasted the
results. Parents of the second
graders sold lemonade and baked
items. r,
Money raised by the activity
will go to fund an end-of-school
party for the second graders.PPISD

Exhibit set for
Youth Art Month
The Denton Area Art Educa-
tion Association and Texas
Woman's University this "'!ck
opened a Texas Youth Art Month
exhibit in the East Gallery of the
TWU Art Building.
An opening reception will be
held Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
The exhibit will run through
April 15.
Pilot Point Elementary School
students whose works will be ex-
hibited are Krisantha Garza, Jake
Pedigo, Laura Saul, Cassie Trest,
Deke Alexander, Janie Cook,
Joy Galvan, Cassie Del Bosque,
Sara Simons and Erica Tischler.
