Notes

The theme of the conference was "Gems of the past, present, and future."

Dr. Miriam J. Johnson received her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Boston College. She has been a classroom teacher, librarian, and reading resource teacher in elementary schools; a professor of children’s literature on the college lever, and an editor for children’s resources. Retired from education she now writes and lectures on the subject. She has received the Helen Keating Ott Award from the Church and Synagogue Library association for her “outstanding contribution in children’s literature.” Her book, Building a Child’s Library: Inside Twenty-Five classic Children’s Stories, 2004, has been praised as a “much needed book for teachers, librarians, and parents who desire that children’s lives be enhanced by quality literature.” An older edition published in 1988 includes an essay on Bridge to Terabithia.
