Transcript of script: "(DETROIT)--THE CHAIRMAN OF GENERAL MOTORS--JAMES ROCHE--SAYS THAT BECAUSE OF A JUSTICE DEPARTMENT ANTI-TRUST ACTION, U-S AUTOMAKERS HAVE STOPPED WORK ON COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-POLLUTION DEVICES. ROCHE TOLD A NEWS CONFERENCE IN DETROIT THAT THE AUTO MANUFACTURERS HOPE TO FIND A WAY OF OPERATING JOINTLY WITHIN THE LAW. (WASHINGTON)--EIGHTY DAYS OF HEARINGS ON AUTO WARRANTIES HAVE ENDED IN WASHINGTON. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION--PAUL RAND DIXON--INDICATED THAT ADDITIONAL STATE AND FEDERAL LEGISLATION MAY BE NEEDED TO REGULATE NEW-CAR GUARANTEES PROPERLY. AMONG WITNESSES AT THE HEARINGS WAS A MARYLAND HOUSEWIFE WHO BOUGH A "LEMON" AND FOUND HER WARRANTY WORTHLESS."
