Description

A recording of Rodd Gray (aka Patti Le Plae Safe) speaking at the "Four Dallas Icons" edition of Outrageous Oral held on May 21, 2015 in the Rose Room at S4 in Dallas. On the 30th anniversary of his move to Dallas, Gray reflects on how his life "really came together" when he moved to Dallas. During the height of the AIDS crisis, Gray wrote a column called "Dear Patti" for The AIDS Update and participated in benefit concerts like the Dallas Gay Alliance's War on AIDS. Gray talks about the severe grief he experienced in the 1980s when many friends died from AIDS, as well as the fulfillment he found raising money for charity. At the end of the video Patti Le Plae Safe performs "From A Distance" as sung by Bette Midler. Outrageous Oral is a quarterly evening of GLBT storytelling hosted by The Dallas Way, a GLBT history organization.
