Last week, the Pengaton allowed American and
foreign newsmen to visit a U.S. missile base on
the island to watch the removal of Mace "B" missiles.
The base is headquarters for the Air Force's
U 4-99th Air Support Branch.
The missiles on view -- a surface-to-surface type--
had already been partially dis-mantled.
Air Force spokesmen refused to say whether the
missiles had been equipped with nuclear voW warheads.
In any case, the Mace "B! -- with its relatively
slow speed and short range -- is now regarded as anout-dated nuclear weapon.
