Senator Yarborough today said that former President
Johnson was mistaken when he blamed Hubert Humphrey's
defeat on a concession to dovish sentiment on the
Vietnam War.
Last Saturday, Johnson said in a TV interview that
Humphrey lost the presidency when -- in a September
1968 Salt Lake City speech -- he called for a
bombing halt at the slightest sign of Hanoi's
readiness to start serious negotiations to end the
war.
On the weekly TV program "Capitol Eye" -- seenon Channel Five -- Yarborough disagreed with
