RUNNINGMoore, Commander of the 340th Bombardment Group at
Carswell -- SAC's first PB-111 organiz tion -- and
Lt. Col. J. W. Hart, Chief of Air Force Flight
Operations at General Dynamics.
Col. Moore says the FB-111 is designed to supplement
the early models of the B-52 which are being phasedout.
SAC's version of the F-111 has a longer
Nitgspaf wingspan, heavier landing gear, an advanced
avionics system, and more powerful engines.
Officials say it has every advantage over the B-52
except one,..it doesn't have as long a range.
If you wanted to buy an F-B-111-A, but you can't,
it would cost you 8.5 (M) million dollars.
The Air Force now has two supersonic bombers....the
PB-111-A delivered today, and the B-58 Hustler, also
a General Dynamics/Fort Worth product.
Bill Hix, WBAP News, at Carswell Air Force Base.
