Candidates for U.S. Senator in the May 2nd
primaries have bunched up to woo voters in the same
area this week-end, but their campaign utterances
covered a wide array of divergent topics.
The four candidates were all in the Dallas-Fort
Worth-Irving area.
Today, Senator Ralph Yarborough -- seeking
re-election to a third regular six-year term --
spoke to about 75 youthful supporters in downtown
Fort Worth.
Yarborough said the Vietnam conflict is an
"im-prov-i-dent war". He said the U.S. is spending
about 100 million dollars a day on the war, and
added: "For 100 (M) million dollars, we could send
thousands and thousands of students to college who
need the education, but don't have the money."
Yarborough's opponent -- Lloyd Bentsen of Houston--
spoke of Congressional pay and pensions, and
