DESMOND: LIVEThe 2nd round of the Bob Hope Desert Classic wound
up in a 4-way tie for the lead today at Palm Springs,
California, and as it turned out, one of those at
the top was Arnold Palmer, who hasn't won in more
than a year.
The 41-year old Palmer had problems getting things
together today but so did most everybody else. He
finished with a 1-under 71 and was joined at 138 by
Bert Yancey, Bob Murphy, and little-known George
Hixon.
One stroke back at 139 is Masters champion Billy
Casper who had a 68 today. He's in a deadlock with
Ray Floyd, Bob Rosburg, Roberto Bernardini, Dick
Rhyan, and Bobby Greenwood, to round out the top
contenders.
First round leader Marty Fleckman had problems today
as hea fell to a 77 and finished at 143./
