FILM COMING...
DESMOND: LIVE Here at home, one of the area's top swimming meets,
the Southwest AAU Indoor Championships, opened at
SMU's Perkins Natatorium tonight with a choice field
on hand for 3 nights of competition.
FILM: SWIMMING SILENT......... :40
The action kicked off around 7 o'clock this evening
with preliminary heats in the 400-yard individual
medley which combines the 4 competitive strokes of
swimming.... the butterfly, backstroke, breastroke,
and freestyle. In this particular heat, the race
belonged to " Rick Wery
of Arkansas who brought it home in a time of 4
minutes, 47.4 seconds which wasn't quite good
enough to make the finals. Later on, the top six
qualifiers swam for the title and the winner turned
out to be SMU's Ronnie Mills, the Olympian from
Ft. Worth. The meet is due to run through Satur-
day with SMU expected to bring home most of the gold
medals.
