LEGISLATORS HAS CITED A NUMBER OF INCIDENTS OF ELECTION RIGGING
BY PRESIDENT THIEU'S (TOOS) GOVERNMENT. NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS
ARE SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY AND THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS SCHEDULED
FOR EARLY OCTOBER.
IN ONE INCIDENT, THIEU IS SAID TO HAVE TRIED TO MONOPOLIZE
ENDORSEMENTS NEEDED BY OTHER CANDIDATES TO QUALIFY FOR THE
PRESIDENTIAL BALLOT. THE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN SAYS ''IT IS AS
DISHONEST AS A MERCHANT HOARDING CONSUMER GOODS.'"
(SAIGON)--NORTH VIETNAMESE TROOPS HAVE ASSAULTED TWO AMERICAN
ARMORED CAVALRY PATROLS SOUTH OF DA NANG. FIVE AMERICANS WERE
KILLED IN ONE OF THE ATTACKS, AND 12 OTHERS WOUNDED. IT WAS
ONE OF THE HEAVIEST AMERICAN LOSSES IN MONTHS.
THREE ARMORED VEHICLES WERE DESTROYED AND A FOURTH WAS DAMAGED.
ENEMY LOSSES ARE NOT KNOWN.
