Soft-spoken Jim Simons, a student at Wake Forest,
conquered herion Golf Club Course in Ardmore,
Pennsylaania today to take a two stroke lead over
pre-tournament favorite Jack Nicklaus.
Simons ripped five-strokes off par with a
scintillating 65 for a three-under score of 207 for
54 holes. A o on the 17th prevented Simons , who
carted the day four: .kes off the pace, from
equaliing the Open record of 64,
Two weeks ago Simons was runnerup in the BritishAmateur.

to win the Open in 38 years. And, at this stage
