"The right of voting for representatives is the primary right by which all other rights are
protected; to take away this right is to reduce a man to slavery."

United States of by any state on account of race, color,
or previous condition of servitude."

Election Protection 2004
A Citizens for Equality Program
Even though our constitution guarantees us the right to vote, in the last several elections it
has become increasingly clear that we have to work to protect that right. Deliberate
attempts to disenfranchise voters double its effect by violating the rights of the voter in
the future. With so much on the line with the election of 2004, we can not afford to let
our democracy be hijacked by those who care only for winning and have no regard for
the constitution.
Citizens for Equality, in cooperation with the Dallas County Democratic Party, is
conducting a program to insure that voter rights are respected in 2004 and that confidence
in the electoral system is revived. In order to achieve that goal, there must be a presence
from the time the first mail-in ballots are counted until the election results are
determined.
It is our goal to ensure that those eligible to vote who want to vote can vote and that their
vote is accurately recorded AND THAT THEY KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE. We must
be sure that every Alternate Judge position is filled, that there are trained poll watchers at
polling places identified as persons who can assist voters regarding their voting rights
with information on where to go to vote and what is required to vote. We want no eligible
voter turned away.
During the election process during early voting and on November 2, 2004, we will have
a legal team go to the polling place at the first sign of trouble. Were goingjto make sure
that ever polling place has interpreters to help those in the community who may be
intimidated by po wa c erswho cannot communicate with them. We must have
computer experts to witness the voting equipment testing. When the ballot board meets to
evaluate the mai -in allots, we must have representatives observing the process. Training
must be prepared and presented in all the above areas with particular attention to the new
federal and state laws affecting voting. Administrative assistance in the office is needed
from now through the election.
We will need upwards of a thousand volunteers to validate the promise of Democracy in
our election. You are welcomed to join us as a volunteer, financial contributor, mentor
and friend. Please complete the form on the reverse and send, fax or email to CfE.
