ART
The Art For Life fundraiser has already raised about $2,000.00 for the AIDS Resource Center and will continue
through August 19 at Dave's Art and Pawn Shop in Deep Ellum. Dave's is much more than an art shop, in fact
it serves a fine variety of foods until the late hours of the night. Stop by (2544 Elm) and view/buy some of the
original works on sale.
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FUND
The theme of the steering committee:
Imagine Us Together.
The mission:
To establish a house for the gay and lesbian community of Dallas
to promote cooperation, understanding and continuity.
To volunteer for the committee call the Dallas Gay Alliance at 528-4233.
SPEAKER'S CLUB
Twenty members of the Speaker's Club met to discuss outreaches and plans for addressing both AIDS and gay
related issues. Targets will be: Youth Groups, PTAs, Nursing Schools and Complexes, as well as contacting
specific teachers in the public and private school system. The meeting provided an opportunity for members to
meet each other, discuss current hot topics and learn about public reaction to many of our programs. The next
Speaker's Club meeting will be scheduled in September. For more information about the Speaker's Club,
please contact Jerry Calumn or Jamie Schield at 521-5124.
SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL II
Billed as THE Food Pantry Benefit, the Gay and Lesbian Young Adults will host SKOW IIon Saturday, August
18 at 8:00pm. This year it will be held at Level II(aclub) located at 2404 Cedar Springs @ Maple. The 1990
SKOW Court will return featuring Patti Le Plae Safe and her Plae Safe Plae Mates. SKOW is open to all
community supporters. Cost is $10.00. Call the GLYA hotline at 621-7440 for more information.
ESTATE PLANNING
The Dallas Legal Hospice has introduced an Estate Planning Questionnaire. This is mainly in the form of a
telephone conversation with our clients, outlining the Estate Planning documents and asking the client for his or
her wishes on various selections of agents, property distribution, and the like. Volunteers wishing to help need
no legal experience and the questionnaires are quite detailed. This is a highly rewarding experience for
everyone involved, and we welcome the opportunity to broaden our client base. A volunteer can preform these
tasks here in our office, or at home. Call the DLH at 522-8064.
COFFEE BREAKS WITH THE E. D.
On August 18, John Thomas will host the first in a series of volunteer/client coffee break-rap sessions or round
table discussions. Volunteers and clients will be selected at random and asked to come to the Center to meet
with John. The separate discussions with clients and with volunteers will be an opportunity to ask questions and
give feedback about the DGA AIDS Resource Center and the Nelson-Tebedo Clinic, the operations and
services and the future. If you are contacted, please plan on attending. Each month there will be a different
group of volunteers and clients making up the sessions.
