The Texas delegation to the National
Democratic Convention July tenth will send
42-delegates pledged to Governor George Wallace;
Senator Geogge McGovern Will have 34 votes;
21 are committed to Senator Hubert Humphry, and
33 delegates are uncommitted.
Another interesting statistic is the
composition of the delegates: 29 young people,
39 women, 12 Negroes and 19 Nexican-Americans.
Yesterday's convention was slow to start
and slower to finish -- it was a non-stop,
15-and-one-half hour marathon session that
wasn't -aveled into adjournment until 3:30 this
morning.
State party chairman Roy Orr was defeated
as permanent vice chairman of the convention by
Nrs. Elddie Bernice Johnson of Dallas. Nrs.
Johnson is the first Negro woman ever electedxitX~h~mTaRt to the position.
